First Time Owner

We just purchased a '98 Newmar Dutch Star, diesel puller. Cummins engine on Freightliner chassis. The odometer is LCD and I think works, but all the numbers look pretty much like 8's. On the drive home, I did a trip reset and it looks like it recorded 140 miles which is accurate (still hard to read). On the regular reading, which should be about 59000, I can't make out the numbers.

Is the small LCD meter something that can be swapped out with a newer one? If so, would I be better off at a Freightliner shop, a Cummins shop or any RV shop?

Also, the dash air conditioner isn't working right. Once again, where would you suggest I go for service.

By the way, I'm in Kansas City, KS.

Welcome lweekly to irv2.
To get started here is a Brochure and 99 Owners Guide, the lowest we have but not that much different from 98.
Plus its a diesel puller, 210 hp, similar to a gas coach at the time.
If you can look closely at display may have markings of MFG either in front or in back if you drop display out.
If you do that you can check wiring and may have a plug behind display that can be pulled a cleaned with a contact spray cleaner, from RS, after cleaning may get display back. You can check wiring and look for a common ground feeding display may need a re-termination.
If the display needs to be fixed I can find a thread that may help with that.
The dash AC if not cooling that great use a vice grip pliers and crimp one of the heater hoses feeding the AC/Heater unit and see if cooling improves if it does than you could install a BALL VALVE to shut off hot water into the unit for summer months just make sure wife gets the heat in the winter.
If you know the Vin# or coach build number from Newmar you can input it into the COM_NET2 link and find information for your coach build.
When you find the time come join us down in the Newmar forum.

ComNet2 Catalog Search didn't find it

I put in the last 7 digits of the VIN# and didn't get any results.

My VIN#: 4UZAMFAC5WC962592

Any help?

Thanks

Sorry about that looking at block next to input instructions they started with the 1999 year as the owners guides do also.
You could maybe try calling Newmar for that info with Vin # or their coach build number.

Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the group!

I can't help with your questions but I would suggest that you post specific questions over in the appropriate areas of the forum for best results. Not many folks hang out here in the Welcome area.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
