I recently retired and an now considering the purchase of a recreational vehicle. There will just be three of us using the vehicle. My main consideration is that I am disabled and need a unit that will fit my needs. My left leg is permanently straight and the bathroom becomes a problem in a lot of units. The leg sticks out about thirty inches from the hip. I have been in some units and was unable to sit on the toilet. In addition I need a unit that I can use a washer and dryer.
The wife is leaning toward a fifth wheel and I am leaning toward a Class A Motor Home. I have narrowed down to either a Nu Wa or Teton fifth wheel. The motor home has been narrowed down to three brands so far, Winnebago, Monaco, or Fleetwood. If I go with a motor home should it be a diesel pusher or gas?
Since this is a major purchase I am trying to do my homework prior to making the purchase. I have subscribed to all of the magazines and have been touring RV shows. The more shows I go to, the more confused I become with all of the options that are available.
I would appreciate any advice concerning the pros and cons of towing versus driving the motor home. The one major drawback I have with towing, is being able to back the unit up at a campground. I currently have a Toyota Sienna van that has been modified for my wheelchair. It is my understanding that this vehicle can be modified for use as a toad behind a motor home. When I tow this vehicle does it count the miles on the van. In addition since this vehicles floor has been lowered, I am concerned about the ground clearance. I have bottomed the vehicle out just leaving has stations. If I buy a fifth wheel then I will have convert the truck to carry the wheelchair.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
