Found it!

Too much stuff on the screen I guess! But I found the "New Thread" button!

I am not new to RVing (since the mid-80s), however I now (since June 2013) have my own rig...with no man along to control everything and shoot down all my good ideas

I've taken 2 shortie (1 alone, 1 with DD) shake-down trips in it, and DD and I went to MO in late Sept. for 2 weeks with our 5 tiny dogs (her 2, my 3).

We shared driving, and towed my Honda Element, which we were sure would blow up, or something at any time!
Plus the Winnie has a Banks Power Pack modification on it that had a loose head gasket on the manifold exhaust. Ford couldn't fix it in time for our trip. We decided to go ahead anyway, so we fiddled with window and dash AC configurations to keep the exhaust out of the rig. It worked, but was noisy as hell nonetheless!
We made it back in one piece, for which I now have new found appreciation for the integrity of my rig

DD is starting grad school in January to be a teacher , so I will have to go it completely alone (and 3 tiny dogs) on trips for awhile...a little nervous about that but I am currently having some modifications done to my rig for safety and comfort, such as the installation of MaxxFans, and dually wheel liners with valve extenders so I can easily air up those tires.
I'm hoping the fans will help with the weak roof AC the rig currently has...No Bueno in the AZ heat!

Now I'm researching CB radios...scared of breaking down, and no way to make a call!

Thanks for letting me join, and look forward to interesting conversation!

Welcome to the forums. At least you have the routine down pat. Your dd is not escaping the educational system anytime is she? Good luck with the mechanical stuff on your rig. You could play it safe and spend all your camping time just at truck stops and interstates but what fun would that be? ;p

Welcome to the forums and enjoy the ride. Buy some tools and learn how to fix stuff, just ask. Tools and knowledge = independence.

So now with winter coming up, think I'd even if it hurt the budget make sure your exhaust leaks are fixed. Carbon Monoxide poisoning is a very serious threat. It's even worse when it gets cold and you kinda get used to the smell and you might think at a given time "its not that bad" but its deadly when you least expect it.
Almost any thing else can be managed by not going so far, not changing locations as often, just using it as it is--but any kind of exhaust leak -- can be deadly!
Otherwise I think it's great to get out there and enjoy the things/ places in this country you like.

Loren

Thanks Loren, but it was fixed right after we got back. Anyway, we were never in any danger, as my alarm is in perfect working order, and it never went off.

Oh! That's good. I'm glad you got that worked out. It makes me happy when I have had a problem and think about it and then with input from others and my own thoughts find a solution. Think for me that is almost as much fun as actually going out in the mh.

Anyway enjoy!!
Loren
