From floating to rolling...
Hi all, glad to be here and part of the forums.
Bit of a backstory. About 12 years ago my girlfriend made an innocent offhand comment - "we could sell the house and move aboard a sailboat and the kids couldn't keep boomeranging home." Sixteen months later we had learned to sail, sold our house, bought a 43 foot sailboat and moved aboard. The sailboat lasted about a year and we upsized to a 48 foot motor yacht.
Fast forward to January 2014. After more than 10 years of living aboard she still hasn't learned to stop thinking aloud. "Maybe we should sell the boat and retire on an RV?" she pondered....
We identified a 5 year plan to pay off some debt, sell the boat, and hit the road as full time RVers. (Having lived aboard a boat we are confident that small space will not be an issue for us.) Two weeks later on an innocent reconnaissance trip to see what was out on the market, in a classic example of putting the cart before the horse, we bought a gently used 2012 Winnebago Tour 42QD.
So here I am, a happy albeit somewhat shocked RV owner of three weeks. In that time I have also secured a private campground membership here in Washington state, as our liveaboard slip doesn't come with parking for an RV.
Looking forward to all the knowledge, particularly that from those that can help talk me off of the "OMG we bought something way too big" ledge.
What is it they say, go big or go home?
Rich

Hey Veja -Du. Your story is just like mine. 10 yrs on a 42' trawler, innocent remark by Admiral, sold boat in less than a month, now on a 41' land yacht for less than three weeks. As fulltime liveaboards, we've had a bit of a struggle downsizing to the weight limits on the RV. Especially me, I'm a parts hoarder. But as I am realizing, you don't need to be quite so self-sufficient on the rolling yacht. So we (I've) been divesting myself of extra weight, and are heading out of Fl next Sat. Will be in you're neck of the woods soon, Daughter lives in Snohomish. If you can water yacht, you can land yacht. See you down the road.

As it turns out, that was a faulty premise. The kids figured out quickly that a) the boat has three cabins and we only live in one and b) if they showed up with bag in hand, mama wasn't going to send them away. So two of them have spent significant time living aboard with us...

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Mike, if you and the Admiral make it up to Seattle, drop us a note. Would love to meet a fellow water/land yachter...
Best everyone,
Rich

Welcome to the forum. We had a similar experience ........ 5 years in a motorhome ..... then 5 years aboard a trawler ....... wheels or keels? ..... we are back again in a motorhome fulltime. Enjoy the wonderful fuel mileage of your land yacht compared to your floating yacht. When you park for the night there is a good chance you will be in the same spot come morning. When you anchor all bets are off. These are just two of the many advantages to RVs. You will quickly scamper up the RV learning curve as we all did. Everyone here will help give you a boost up!
