generator problems
My 5th wheel came prewired for a generator and I purchased a 5500 Onan generator and hooked it up. The generator starts and runs great but when I flip the breakers on the generator it shuts off. The transfer switch is a 50 AMP IOTA and I suspecion it is not working correctly or is defective. I have ran the generator unhooked from the transfer switch and it works and carries 118V on both hot legs. I have disconnected the cable on the transfer switch marked powercord and it has 118V on both hot legs coming in so I'm sure the panel wiring and powercord coming to the transfer switch was wired correctly. I read in the installation guide for the transfer switch that the switch on the delay should be in the on position which it wasn't when I first tried the unit. It is now on however the guide also said the LED light on the delay switch should be on and it is not in either position whether the power is coming from the shore power or from the batteries. Any suggestions and if I have to change out the transfer switch, is there a specific brand someone would recommend?
