Getting first RV this Saturday!

Ust purchased a 2013 Itasca Sunstar Sport 26HE and picking up this Saturday. We are really excited to have an RV, but really know nothing about RV ownership. I am looking forward to learning a lot from this board, so I'll give everyone a big thank you now. :-)

Hi folks, welcome to IRV2. This is the best place to come when you have questions. Be sure when they show you the operations of your RV to take your time. Be sure you understand before moving to the next item. They are supposed to give you unlimited time to understand your RV. Then have fun and safe travels.

Agree 100% with bsirby. Take your time, take plenty of notes, leave any egos home when it comes to asking questions. Asking more questions and asking for clarity, and proof will only make sure the transaction is good for both parties.

Have them show you not only how to do something but that it actually does it. It's easy to say to flip this switch to turn on the water heater, it's another thing altogether that it actually does. If they say it works on both gas and electric, then have them show you it does. Have them show you how to connect to city water, fill the holding tank and then how to drain it.

It would be good to have one of you video record what is going on so you can review it later. (Now what was this switch for?)

Read all the documents and make sure you understand the warranties and who is responsible for fixing things. If they say something is covered have them show you where in the documents it says so.

Tell them you want to see the gen work and if they say it needs more gas in it to get it to work, tell them you will wait till they come back with enough gas in it to operate. I assume they are going to give you a tank of gas as part of the deal....

A good pre-delivery check out for a newbie could take several hours. So don't get in a hurry.

Since you have a slide, make sure you understand how to operate it, lubricate it, and in the event something should happen, how to manually retract it.

Spend a few days in it getting to know it, take good notes on what works the way you think it should, what doesn't, and write down any questions. If it doesn't rain, take a hose to the roof and windows and check for leaks.

I hope and suspect everything will be fine and you will enjoy your new play toy.

Absolutely do that. We did and I have referred back to the video and audio recordings many times. It helps, as does asking questions here.

Our PDI took about 6 hours. It should have taken 20 hours. Don't be in a hurry.

Question Your Sunstar 26HE

Hi Macnut,

After owning your rig for 6 months now, how do you like it? Any major issues? What if anything would you change if you could?

The reason why I ask is that I am considering buying one or the Winnie Vista Rally 26HE ( same rigs) I currently own a 25' 2011 Monaco Montclair which is a beautiful rig but I'm having serious issues with the lack of counter space in the kitchen (none) and the corner bed as well as the lack of basement storage. All of these concerns are addressed and very acceptable in either the Sunstar or the Vista.

I hope you will see this post and take the time to respond.
Many thanks,

Rob
