Getting started
We are new members and are only now as we get ready for retirement looking for a motor home. We have two little dogs (Kirby and Oliver) hence our log in name. They are the main reason that we are going this route as we want to travel extensively and don't want to leave them behind. This is a very exciting time. In our search we found a couple of units that interested us but have discovered that both are out of production. The Damon Avanti and the Gulf stream Montaj are no longer being produced. They were both moderate sized and boasted better milage than anything else that we're the same size. In fact we talking to gulf stream we were told that they have closed their motorized division altogether. Shocking and Disappointing!! This is certainly a complicated market!! We continue our quest for the perfect match for us.

Because a unit is no longer being produced doesn't mean the units out there second hand will not be a good fit for you. DW and I decided what we wanted in a unit, how much we were willing to pay and then we looked. In half the time we allotted ourselves we found what we feel is a perfect fit for our family. Keep looking but don't overlook the perfect for you, used unit.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your search, I'm sure you'll find what you want and when you see it you will know that it works for you both. Good luck.

Welcome, it took us almost two years to get our first class A. Looked around the whole northeast. We did all the searching and researching on line first, but.... there was nothing like seeing all the different units in person, sitting in the seats, figuring out what we liked and did not like. The search was great fun for us. Good luck, hope you enjoy the search and find one that will meet all your needs, if not all your wants.

That is what we have been doing. About a year ago we went to an RV show and since then have been surfing the net to see what the variables are. i am sure there are a couple more shows and lots of dealer visits in our future before we make a decision but we are having fun with the process. We are about a year out from retirement so giving ourselves lots of time to get it right. You are right -- you need to sit in them and feel them before you really know if it is right. This is not a small decision.

Welcome to irv2, we bought our national in August of this year because it was exactly what we had been looking for over the last two years. The salesman told us the company went out of business but after examining the unit and doing research here we decided to buy and we absolutely love it, so do your research and don't worry if there not in production anymore. Good luck in your search.
