Glad To Be Here!

I hope everyone had a safe and sane 4th of July!

Just joined up here at irv2 and am looking forward to reading and learning about the RV lifestyle. I am going to try and learn a bit here before I go off and purchase one.

I have never owned one. I rented a few and learned about setting up and breaking down, driving (one of my careers was big rigs so that wasn't too hard) and living in one over short periods of time.

However, times are about to change. I am about to retire (I'll be 59 this fall) and plan on part timing in an RV with the better half. We can barely keep out of each others way in a 2000+ sq. ft. house so this should be interesting. No pets or kids to haul with us and from what I can gather, it appears a 36 - 38 ft DSP will do us just fine. It will probably be used. I know the pros and cons of that approach and am also familiar with the ups and downs of new vehicle ownership. My intent it to avoid some of the initial depreciation hit.

I'll be doing a lot of reading so as not to bore any of you with those inevitable and ubiquitous newbie questions. I am sure I'll have a few, though.

Thanks for having me and I look forward to talking with you all!!!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I've been reading and researching. I can't tell you how valuable all the experience and "lessons learned" that folks have posted here are to an RV newbie!

I know they are totally different coaches but the Winnebago Destination 37 has a great floor plan for us. However, I've found a 2005 American Coach American Tradition 40J that looks nice. Next time we go to Mesa I am going to have to visit some of the dealers down there. It appears there are a LOT of gently used Class A DSP's for great prices there.

The decision is not made by a long shot. So much to learn!
