Good Morning!
I am about to acquire a 2006 GS Sun Voyager from my parents. Owned a travel trailer in the past but never a motor home, and it’s huge (to me). It has only 15,000 miles and pretty lightly used. There are a few issues we are working through at the moment, such as, the engine isn’t running right and that’s kind of a big deal. Takes a long time to get up to speed but can only manage to get to 54 MPH while the engine is occasionally backfiring. The check engine light has NOT come on, surprisingly. The gas has been sitting in the tank for more than a year with no stabilizer added. The plan for now is to get that gas out (about 50 gallons), clean the fuel filter, flush as much old gas out as possible, then add fresh and go from there. Has anyone run into “old gas” issues? If so, what steps would resolve the problem? I should also ask, would old gas (like years old) cause poor engine performance (may be a dumb question but had to ask)? TIA! I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time on this site and gaining very valuable RV ownership knowledge!

Your on the right track as far as the old gas purge you mention doing.
Get yourself a good OBDII scanner to see if you can see anything there - you may not have a CEL, but there may be codes in the computer.
I’ve got a FoxWell 301, but the 600 series would be my choice if I didn’t have the 300. The key to a good scanner is one that will record active data.
You didn’t mention mileage or what engine/transmission/chassis. That info would help greatly.
When you get your scanner - pay close attention to your Long and Short Fuel Trims.
Welcome to the board! There are a lot of good people on here willing to help.

Good tips and I will act on them! The rig is a on a Workhorse chassis, 8.1L gas. Based on my research it appears to be a widely used platform and fairly reliable. But, I’m sure I’ll have problems down the road that I’ll take in stride. Thanks for the input!

‘02 Workhorse chassis with the 8.1l and Allison transmission too. Got her in January with almost 38k on her.
Definitely change plugs and wires - 41-101’s and Magnum wires from Brazel’s.
Don’t use anything other than the OEM air filter or equal (nothing that you put oil on).
Definitely monitor engine coolant temperature with your OBDII scanner.
Many people will say to only use a ScanGauge II - I got one, and I think I’m ready to sell it - all it does is gives you transmission coolant temperature that most other scanners can’t. It does not record any data, and doesn’t have any alarm capability.
Get with Ed Gray on the WorkHorse forum and have him run your VIN - see if you chassis has had the brake recall implemented. If not, get it done!
Change the transmission fluid to TranSyn or equivalent. Your transmission will love you for it (mine left us a bottle of red wine, a box of chocolates, and a dozen roses).
And as suggested previous - follow the Workhorse forum. A lot of good info can be found there.
