Hello everyone!

Hi! My name is John and I am new to this site. My wife and I just purchased a 2004 Monarch LaPalma 36 WDD. We're new to RVing and I'm here to learn and ask questions. We live in Utah.

I make custom pens (www.tuscanypens.com) and during the spring and summer we travel to art shows to sell my pens. We got the RV to cut down the expenses of hotels during tourist season (and to just travel and have some fun). One of the things we will have to do is tow a vehicle with us so that we can park the RV and travel to the show each day.

Question (and I'm not sure this is the right forum to do it in. If not, please correct me.): what is the best vehicle to tow (I'm looking at 2000 to 2005); how to tow it (on a dolly or dinghy); and what is the cost associated with each.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me and for your patience as I get used to this forum.

Hi John

Glad to have you here in the forum with us.

There are quite a few vehicles that can easily be towed. Towing with all wheels down is the easiest way to do it. So the choice of what to tow becomes a personal thing. If you like off roading and exploring a rugged 4x4 like Wrangler is nice. Cost of tow bar, base plate wiring, toad braking system and install can be 2-3k. You may find what you need online, and lower costs, especially if you can find used.

Happy Trails!!!

Hi John! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Keep her between the ditches!

I would recommend getting a toad that can be flat towed, not on a tow-dolly! We love our Honda CRV AWD. The CRV can be towed 4-down through the 2014 models. They changed to a different transmission in 2015 and they can no longer be towed.

I also recommend the NSA ReadyBrute Elite towbars with built-in ReadyBrake. They are rated at 8000 lbs, extremely reliable, simple to use, and cost less than any other package out there!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Welcome to the new adventure!
There are hundreds of opinions on this topic. Me I prefer flat towing as opposed to dingy towing. Look at this thread with 1000's of posts

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice, everyone. Both are appreciated. I think that I would prefer to go with the flat towing because of the storage issue of the dolly. The first campground I called for a trip in June said that I would have to put it under the RV because of space issue.

I'll be back for more help
