Welcome to the forum and the world of RVing.
Through we live on the west coast now, my wife (born in Calgary) and I got married there and spent many years there raising our family.
If the timing works out for you, you might consider departing a wee bit earlier and attending the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show
, Jan 16th thru 24th, 2016. It is a free show with lots of vendors to help you equip your new home on wheels and you can camp for a very modest fee or free on the BLM lands south of town.
Being new to RVs you might also find it helpful to research groups that will be congregating in the area and boondock with them. We stay with a Newmar group but iRV2 had a group there last year and there may be a Winnebago group camped out there as well. Camping with a group has a huge advantage for newbies in allowing you the opportunity to mix and learn from RV veterans.
