Hello from California
Greetings all,
Scott here. Long-time RVers but new to this forum. We started out with a pop-up tent camper back in 1976 or so, then gravitated to smaller motorhomes. Our current unit is a 2007 Itasca Navion, the performance of which has been splendid overall. We bought the motorhome to use for weekend trips and family vacations.
Trouble is, our requirements have changed as we now travel for contract work and are finding ourselves pretty cramped in the Navion when we have to use it for extended periods.
For this reason we are evaluating some different options for more living space, either a 5th-wheel with a diesel pickup to pull it, or a diesel pusher motorhome. I will probably be bugging current owners of both for info. I will also be happy to answer any questions I can about familiar units.

If you get a DP, you will have to tow something for your work. If you get a 5th wheel, you need something to tow it. Most of my friends with 5th wheel trailers have a diesel PU, most with a crew cab. I guess it might depend on what you want to drive around when not towing. Do you need a PU for your work? Can you do with a smaller car? Lot's of questions.

We've had both fivers and DP's. Each has it's pluses and minuses. If you're going to stay in one place and don't mind driving a big truck around when you get there, fiver is a good choice. My wife has RA so the steps the bedroom and bathroom in a fiver got to be too much for her so we went back to a pusher. Once you're in, no more steps until you get out.
Pusher lets you tow a smaller vehicle so you get better milage around town and easier to park than the big truck. In my experience, you'll probably get about the same mileage towing the fiver or driving the DP pulling a toad.
