Hello from Central PA

Hello! My husband and I are shopping for our first RV. We've been looking since February, but the more we learn (and dream), the more our idea of the perfect-for-us RV changes. We have nine-year-old twins (b/g) and two Boston Terriers (not twins), so both the RV and tow vehicle would have to fit us comfortably for long treks across the country. We decided to go with a smaller travel trailer that we can pull with an SUV, so now we are narrowing down the trailers and the SUVs. Advice welcome.

Well....I'm not sure I can help with the trailer side. We have friends with a Z1 that had good luck with it.
But we live close to you, if you need some camping recommendations please feel free to send me a message. We live in Lancaster County PA. Kids are teens now but we have been camping since they were 6 and 8.

Hope you find the perfect rig for your needs! Do a lot of tire-kicking before making the decision!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Just an idea, but you will want to hold the weight of the trailer down, if the tow vehicle is a SUV. Take a look at both pop-ups and hybrids. Should have the room you need, and lower weight.

:welcome" from WA State!

Good luck with your search! I haven't had a TT since 1988 so I'm no help, my info is too old.

If you already have the SUV check find out the max weight it can tow, if you do not yet have the SUV check out whatever you are looking to buy.

September 13 one of the biggest RV shows in the country starts in Hershey. That is a great place to look at, walk through and talk with vendors about trailers, there will be hundreds of them present.

Thank you! I had no idea about the RV show. We'll definitely go to that.

We really like the hybrids and are seriously considering one, but we're worried about temperature and moisture control. I've been reading through a thread here about them; some love them, some hate them. I'm not sure if we'll be able to tell how well the AC works on a dealer's lot. We're going to look at some tomorrow. The last dealer didn't have any plugged in and they were all so hot.

Hey neighbor! Do your kids still go with you? We took our first roadtrip this year to South Dakota. No camper; just my car. We had so much fun, but I'm kind of worried that I want to travel way more than they do. That's another reason to keep it smaller and cheaper. Just in case they didn't catch my travel bug.

Yep, we have two daughters, one starts college next month, the other is only 15. Just got back from a long weekend in Cape May, sorry for the delay. SD is a long way from home, that's a great road trip!
We did the same with our SUV's over the years, then wanted to take a two week trip to CA, we looked into renting a Class C for the trip, but it was so expensive. We decided to pick up a class C that needed some work, fix it up and do the trip, return home and sell it. I found one got a great deal on it did everything as planned. We had so much fun on the trip to CA we kept it for another 7 years, then traded it in for the Class A we have now.

We have friends that had a Hybrid trailer, they didn't have any cooling issues that I can remember, the only issue I can remember, which is hilarious...We were all camping at Assateague National seashore in MD, (6 families, we had the entire side of one loop) where the wild ponies roam, anyway they turned in for the night and put their cooler under the front bunk, well a horse put its head under them and raised its head, which resulted in their bunk flipping upward, they both went sliding into the kitchen . Good times!! They since traded it in for a regular Travel Trailer.
