Come on guys . Give a Cajun lady a break with the abbreviations. I'm a computer person and I enjoy IM'n & txt'n but I'm old school. No I didn't say I am "old"..... I said "old school" I have to really work hard to get it. Nothing like a good challenge though and an even better laugh!

Whem2fish, when I was a kid in Louisiana and Mississippi, we floundered with what we called a "gig". It was a worn out broom handle with a big nail in the end. Now I'm going to really tell my age..... We had a Coleman Pan Lantern for a light. It was just that.....a metal pan with mantles in it. It used "white gas". That was when you could buy white gas (obviously). Most everyone that grew up on the Coast knew what white gas was. The thing was, that light was so bright and became so oooo hot, it would burn the skin off of where ever that pan touched! The thing about the gigging, was you were gigging flat fish and hopping that it wasn't a stingray when you slid your hand under his stomach to pick him up! What a childhood. A bunch of bare footed kids on the beach wading in water with flesh burning tools and a rusty nail on a stick without an adult in sight! Some of the best times of my life.

Now I have a spotlight like is used on a bandstand. It's a long metal cylinder that has a bulb in it the size of a car head light. It's electric and I hang it on my pier and wait for the fish to feed. I use a white Striker grub with a red swivel tail (aprox. 2 " - 4"). A guy caught a 16 lb. flounder from my pier with that rig-up. We've caught trout, redfish, flounder, and even stingrays with the same rig-up. During the day, take that rig-up and bounce it up and down along the piers down beside and between the pilings. You'll get flounder!

The thing about me is that I DO like to fish but I don't clean them. I do however, cook them. A fresh flounder stuffed with fresh crab stuffing and baked with a lemon, garlic and butter sauce is the best. Put some crawfish etouffee on the side and heaven has arrived on a plate.

Charliene, you sound like my kind of people. I love your vivaciousness your je ne sais quoi......but I also love Louisiana too! Food, people, the state.

I am planning a trip down to the coast sometime, I want to take the coach and the babies to the beach. I've been told that Padre/Corpus area has great RV sites on the beach. I know its costly, but sure want to do it sometime.

Charliene, you also need to hook up with the Texas Boomers. They are having a rally in Corsicana this Labor Day, but most of the time the rallies are in the hill country/middle southern part of the state so you'd be easy to get to them. I love the Boomers, wonderful people, I joined 2011 November over in Tyler at the Rally. We just had a fantastic 4th of July Rally in Thackerville, OK (Winstar World Casino RV Park, 1 mile into OK off I-35). The Boomers are fun folks, always lots of fellowship, food, and fun!

Ok a update been fishing every day no sharks but about 20 trout and a lot of trash I think they are called sheepskin head we are on the west end of Galveston at the state park. That said on Corpus I stay at the Padrie Palms its a small older park on the water it's cheap. We had strond storms come thru last night

The thread here on IRV2 is a good place to go too. I like the Boomers website too, but am on the IRV2 Thread more.

Will sure hope to get to meet you at one of the Boomer Rallys!!

Thanks so much for the update on your fishing. Yes, the weather was awful! I was concerned. Wondered if you guys were out on the water somewhere. The whole sky was black! It rained all around and barely rained here but the lightening was bad.

Send me some pix. What are you using for bait and where are you fishing? Doing any surf fishing there at the campground? Most everyone goes under the San Luis Pass bridge for good wade fishing. Take the road to the right just before the bridge. Go under the bridge and follow the sand road to the right. Then curve around to the left on the sand road. It will dump you off on the beach. The bridge is now to your right. All that area is good surf fishing but most all the guys fish the channel. The Gulf leads to a channel and the fish gather there. That channel is swift during incoming and outgoing tides. You know how to do the stingray dance? Keep us posted about your progress. Be careful if you go to The Pass. All kinds of fish go in and out of that channel and the water is swift at times. It's good fishing though.

You don't have to know French. I have forgotten more than I remember myself. I love the language and it makes me feel all warm to hear it. They sent me off to college to teach the Cajun and Creole French out of me. Well, they educated me it's true; but I refused to give up my heritage. Was always in a lot of trouble at home because of that. My dad would get so mad at me and tell my mom "Velma, that one got TWO shots of ca yenne, her yeah!" He always said cayenne in two words instead of one word. (French influence spoken in English) I laughed at him and that was a HUGE mistake. We weren't allowed to speak French at home. Our parents wanted us to be "better than that". We lived by our customs but we spoke English. I am no longer fluent in French but I remember some of it. My nickname at home was Moxie. Cherie amour.

I posted on The Boomers site last night. I don't know how to get around the site very well yet, but I did look a little. Seems there have been no posts since 2012. . I also pulled up the map to get directions for the rally. I didn't make reservations yet.

no i went with my X married and divorced 3 times still had a blast with grandkids ended up with 42 trout but bad part happened on way home a inner tire let loos took out floor the exhaught gas tank so im home

Charliene: I do have a question. I understand there is (or was) 2 campgrounds out on the West Beach both of which took a beating from "ike". Are either or both of those back in full operation? Dave
