Hello from New Mexico!

Hello All!

Great site with lots of useful info for newbies. Thanks everyone!

Husband and I had a Bounder in the mid-90's but not enough time to travel to justify the expense. Fast forward to today and we have two grown married children, (one of which is in the AF and lives full time with his wife in his 2017 Airstream in Florida) and our daughter married to an AF man with 2 children currently in Virginia.

We just recently "inherited" a 2002 Tiffin Phaeton 40OH, Freightliner chassis. The coach has not been moved in the last 10 years and unfortunately, has been stored outside without a cover. We are trying to evaluate if it is going to be worth our money and effort to bring this baby up to speed.

So far;
Thorough cleaning of the inside
New batteries
Started her up yesterday without problem but a low water idiot light prevented us from running her too long.
Gauges and lights work so thinking electrical is ok
Bedroom slide worked fine though the top cover busted into pieces when opened.
Front slide engages but won't budge.
Fuel tank shows full and my father says he put stabilizer in but we can't be sure. That's a lot of diesel to dispose of.
Needs new tires all around.
All awnings will need to be replaced and some window seals repaired.

Needs are many and we may have an issue with the air brakes. Will be taking her in for an evaluation next week and see where we go from there.

Husband is semi-retired and I work all over the country. My next job is scheduled to start in April/May in Atlanta for 6 months so hoping we can work out the kinks and take her with us.

If anyone has any pearls of wisdom they would like to share we would be grateful.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully, hooking up out on the road somewhere.

Safe travels!

Glad to have you here in the forum with us.

The best thing you can do is what you are doing. Getting it inspected! Too many unseen problems can really add up to a lot of money. I wish you the best with this coach.

Happy Trails!!!

Thanks for the friendly welcome!

Today we tested the air pressure and it held so next week we will take it to Statkus for an evaluation before we move forward with additional repairs.

Baby steps.

Sorry, I must be on brain overload-ugh, we did NOT have a Bounder, we had a Fleetwood Coronado back in the 90's....but had it for only a short time so basically, we're newbies again. I should probably have DH proof my posts from now on. Hehe.

Hey 505! Welcome aboard!
I lurked for a bit before introducing myself. It's really great to have access to people who have "been there" and "done that". I'm long past the age of wanting to learn things the hard way.

Our son is stationed at Patrick AFB and is thoroughly enjoying his new airstream.
Were you stationed at KAFB?

Hi- sorry for the delay, we were in Phoenix at a show with no wifi. Anyway, no, I was never there. My bases were in TX, CO, IL, and WA with a couple TDYs at Pope and Travis AFB. I got out in 2000, almost one year to the date before 9/11.
