Hey everybody! I'm new to the rv world!

Hey everyone, my boyfriend and I recently bought an RV. We are from Santa Cruz, CA.. A very touristy area. We are 20 and we plan to leave in a few month and travel the US, I'm hoping to settle down near/in Tennessee . We have a 1989 toyota Oddysy with only 44,000 miles on it, she runs like a champ. Does anyone have any major RV tips for us?

Welcome!

First advice is to use the iRV2 sight. There are a lot of good folks with a real interest in helping out.

I would also recommend that you look into getting a Good Sam Club Lifetime membership. Then get a Flying J/Pilot Credit Card. You can set it up for direct debit from your checking account, then you can get a $.06 / gal discount on gas, or $.08 discount on diesel fuel. If you have direct debit from a checking account, then you also have unlimited fuel pumping. You will find that most stations have a $100, or even less limit on pumping. Regardless, you just swipe your card again.

Another tip, to save money, you can usually park for free for the night at a Flying J while traveling. You can usually stay for free at Wall-Marts and other places for the night as well.

If you have a gasser, I would recommend using Costco, Sams Club, or even Wall-Marts that have gas. You will save a lot with these options.

I have a Costco/American Express and that gives me 3% annual rebate on gas purchases, even when the gas is not purchased at Costco.

Also, be sure to get an Emergency Road Service (ERS). You can get this through the GSC or Coach-Net. It is well worth the cost. I had to be towed due to a broken serpentine belt a couple of weeks ago. The tow charge was $800.00.

If you have a smart phone, get the Allstays Camp & RV app. That app will allow you to know what camp sites are coming up, give you site information, provide link to reviews, etc.

You can use The Weather Channel app to track the weather.

What I do is try to use the map app to determine where I will be ending my day, based upon how long I want to travel that day. Then I us the Allstays app to filter for what type of park I am looking for and which type of fuel station I want to visit along the way.

Welcome and congrats. Definitely do a few small trips to make sure everything is working right before you head off for the long haul. Good luck.
