We're new to R/Ving. We hope to meet some of you when we're using the R/V. Two months ago we purchased a new-to-us 24' 1987 Travelmaster class C. Any help we can get will be really appreciated.
So far we've made no long trips in it, although we did take it to Sacramento for Christmas with Susie's brother and daughter and their families. In the last 15 years I have rented 5 times, 17 days in AZ, 10 days SF to Death Valley and back, 3 weeks SF to Red River NM and back, 10 days to Phoenix and back, and 3 days in Yosemite. The last two with my wife Susie and her daughter and grandson (12 and 3). We plan to use it to go to square dancing hoedowns, enjoying the gransons, and just getting away from the work-a-day world that we re-entered in 2009 when I was 76 years old.
Actually, Susie is usually the designated driver - I do the navigation. If the other way around we'd get lost.
But we have had some experience living in tight quarters. In 1980 me and my 1971 Cal 39 competed in the Singlehanded Transpac - one person per boat, San Francisco to Hawaii. I met Susie in 2001 and in 2002 she was the only female in my crew of 5 when I delivered a Far 40 back from Hawaii in 23 days. After that she was still willing to become my wife. The two of us sailed off to the Sea of Cortez in 2009 and spent most of the next 4 years sailing around the sea and once in a while back to California. We more-or-less swallowed the anchor in October 2009, but we still have that same boat and sail her around the San Francisco Delta and a little in the bay and offshore.
I have some experience with solar - I installed 420 rated watts (6 panels) on the boat and it took a while to settle on my third controller. I also installed a reverse osmosis watermaker on the boat.

omitted one part. Where I said that if it was the other way we'd get lost I should have qualified that with "if we didn't get in an accident first".

It seems that you all are easterners. R/Ving must be more popular in the east. It'd be nice to be able to meet you, but I doubt that we'll get that far.
Joe and Annette - The "new rig" is only a "new-to-us 1987 Class C 24 footer. For financial reasons we wanted to use our own property for storage. We have NO side yard on the east and a 3 foot wide side yard on the west. So that limits us to the driveway and it is only 25 feet from the back of the sidewalk to the front of the garage.

I lied when I gave my R/V experience. I forgot about the 20 years that I owned a trailerable Catalina 22 sailboat, and I didn't consider the 36 years of owning my Cal 39 as R/V years. The Cal is confined to operation on the water, but she is a vehicle and she is used for recreation. So that makes her a recreational vehicle - RRight?
And the Catalina 22 I used as both a water operated recreational vehicle and also as an R/V that most of you consider. I even stayed in it parked on the trailer in R/V parks, Grange parking lots, shopping center parking lots, and even church parking lots.
