Hi I am new to the forum

Hi My wife and I are new to this. We have bought a Forest River Cedar Creek 34 RLSA towed by a Chevrolet Silverado 2500, and we love that truck, we don't have anything like it in UK. We have been crossing the pond for a year now and travelling around the US. Started in South Carolina and have worked our way across to Phoenix, where we store it when back in UK.
Next year(2014) we are planning a trip to do the northern states and return via the Oregon coast line. I have seen some comments on this forum that say the road is good for us through Oregon but deteriorates in CA. Happy to hear any views and recommendations for campsites.
We are still newbies and driving on the wrong side of the road, any help welcome

Michael and Sue;

We are glad you joined us. Sorry I can't help answer your question on highways in western states. If you plan on traveling through Wisconsin PM me and I will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.

What months are you coming back for in 2014?

Are you going to hit the Eastern / Midwest / Northeastern US in 2014?

Welcome Senior Brit! The roads in general are probably better in Oregon than in California but I wouldn't let that stop you. They are definitely traversable and you won't want to miss the glorious redwoods along the "avenue of the giants". We just did that trip last month and it is very nice, I would try to plan at least one overnight there, maybe more. A very nice RV park near the north end is the " Ancient Redwoods RV park". The worst of highway 1 will be down south of San Francisco but even that coastline is fabulous to look at though it might be best to stop somewhere inland and take your toad for a day trip or two around that area. The state parks in Oregon are fantastic stays compared to what we have in California so take your time thru there and enjoy what the Oregon coastline has to offer. There are many state parks along the Oregon coast and they also have way more public access to the coast line than California. I hope you enjoy your stay!!!

The California highways are safe but in some places rough. They have resurfaced a lot of miles in recent years which is good but they can't compare to Oregon roads. Highway 1 has stunning views and should not be missed but that does not mean you need to drive all of it. Cut over to highway 101 to skip parts. Oregon has awesome state campgrounds with full hookups in a lot of places and they are pretty inexpensive. Lived about 6 years in England and loved everything but the weather!

When you leave Arizona You could travel up US395. This goes up the east side of the Sierras and Cascades into eastern Oregon. It is a beautiful drive with some wonderful scenery not found every where. Depending in the time of year, there could be lot of bird watching gem collecting or just plane enjoying the views. Travels with less traffic and people. You can cross Oregon on decent roads without ever touching a freeway and get to the coast for a wonderful trip down US101. We also own a Cedar Creek and currently are full timing in it. Great choice of trailers for sure.
