Hi there from Sidney, BC

Paul & Darlene Clarke – PleasureWay owners for 3 years – anticipating our first lengthier (5 week) winter voyage from Victoria BC to SoCal and Az and return. Previous trips include Vancouver Island north to Alert Bay; also a grand circle route from Vancouver north to Prince George, then east through the Rockies (Banff/Jasper) to Calgary, and back to Vancouver.

Looking forward to delving into the collective hive knowledge and experience.

Cheers!

I've been snow/rain birding from the BC coast since 2007 , Jan/Feb are the prime months for RV parks in SoCA , and right now the areas close to LA will be packed with those displaced by the wild fires .

Do you have any destinations or routes in mind ?

Skip426 thanks for the welcome. From Victoria we are heading south purposefully without reservations in Washington and Oregon and Northern California. Recognizing that L.A. will be a potential speed bump, we’ve booked a spot near Santa Barbara at the Carpenteria State Beach and at Ryan Campgound in Joshua Tree Nat’l Park.

We see this trip as a reconnaissance trip. As we move east into Arizona we’ll have lots to see, some reservations and otherwise we’ll follow the road as it rises.

Our guiding principle is to avoid high-elevation passes and snow when we are north, and similarly on our way home in early March, but by then I think we’ll be into the swing of things, and we’ll have the benefit of fellow-RVers along the way. Haven’t yet bought chains, but will do so before leaving, although again we have no intention of driving on snow-covered roads in a blizzard. Plus the whole point is to get into warm, sunnier places and see parts of the country we haven’t experienced before.

MSHappyCampers, it’s good to be here. Thanks for your message of good cheer and best wishes to you too.

Paul, we don't don chains, sonit takes some planning, even here in AZ. I-10 is usually safe, but I-40 gets regular snow. You can visit grand canyon and other northern AZ locations, but keep an eye on the wx. Lots to do in S AZ.
Welcome to the team!
