Howdy from NW Oregon

I just discovered this forum while looking for generator problem solutions. It is a much more active forum than any others I have checked out, so I think I've found a happy home here We bought an old '89 Gulfstream Classic 34' class A about 6 years ago, and have been re-doing a lot of stuff in it ever since. It had leaked and ruined the overhead console above the dash, so I tore that out and built a new one out of fiberglass, and padded and upholstered it. It has a TV that lowers from it at the flip of a switch, and retracts into it for traveling. I'm now in the process of totally re-doing the outside. I've re-sheeted bad areas, and did away with all the trim strips on all the seams, so the shell is all one solid sheet with no joints, and we'll be painting it soon (weather permitting) to finish its new look. I installed new grills in front to modernize the look a little, and took off all the "cupboard handles on the cargo doors and door holding clips above them, replacing the clips with neodimium magnets to hold the doors up. There will be many more improvements to come, I'm sure, and I look forward to interacting with other RV owners on this forum.

Pictures, here at iRV2, we love pictures.
Did , I mention that we'd love to see pictures.
Your repairs may inspire other to undertake restoration , rather than scraping an RV with problems.

I was just up in the NW corner of Oregon last year for vacation. I went from Eugene to Coos Bay to Portland to Cannon Beach to Seaside and finally Astoria. It is absolutely beautiful out there. Daughter and son-in-law are in Eugene so it gives me a reason to stop out that way. Welcome once again and "This thread is useless without pictures".

Howdy and welcome aboard. You seem well seasoned as an rv'er taking on a project like that. We do like pictures so I hope you took plenty. In the mean time we'll be waiting to see them and having some .

disapearing tv

Wild Irish,

Your disappearing tv project sounds interesting to me. I'd love to see a couple of pictures of this in action.

I replaced my old crt tv a year ago with a flat screen, putting it on a articulated arm so it is out of the way while traveling and more in the center of the vehicle when watching. But the idea of the tv out of site when not is use, in my mind seems like a good idea. So again I may not be the only one who would like to see a picture of your accomplishment.

I appreciate your effort to improve you mh, since I am on a similar path with an older Monaco. I have reasoned that money can be spent buying a turnkey mh, or you can take a path that involves time and my own sweat. I enjoy almost as much doing certain things to completion, as actually being on the road. Seems like while on the road this or that is noticed and I start making plans to repair, or modify something. Then I'm anxious to go back on the road and see if it works as good as hoped.

Loren

Overwhelmed!

WOW! I certainly didn't expect this many responses! Thank you all very much, and I did take lots of pictures. Right now it is still looking rough on the driver's side, but the passenger side is mostly done and in primer. Unfortunately it is where I can't get back to get a good picture from a distance, but I'll try to attach a few that I do have. The TV is just hung from a hinge mount which has a cable going to a small winch that I made by attaching a spool (turned from a piece of steel) to the gear on a small power window motor. It has limit switches at both ends of it's travel so it stops automatically. It would have been much simpler to use an electric actuator (screw jack unit), but those cost money, and the whole idea, for me, of having an old motor home and fixing it up is to save money. I can't find the pictures of the TV settup right now, but will get to that later. I hope I got the other pic's attached. I'm computer illiterate, so don't know if I did it right or not.

And one more picture of the "Pig"

I left out the picture of the front with the new grills in place temporarily. Notice the hood ornament
