HWH replacing springs

Hello all,
well I'm new here just signed on, anyway I have a class A 33' Winnebago Elante 1994
just replaced left side rear and what a trip that was I new this was going to be tough doing it on the RV so I took whole jack off clamped it on to one of my benches in the shed put the springs on the foot put the 1/4 dia. rod with the eyelets on the ends thru the springs, then used a chain and a tie down strap over one of my rafters, and also very important a 2x6 between the bench and the rafter so ratchet away I go and it worked pretty good so then my son comes over and says hey Dad I replaced these when they were on the coach just with a vice grip and a screw driver so we try this and it shows some promise (oh I forgot to mention I have the kick down jacks so you have to do both springs at the same time) Well he gone again so looks like I will try to do it alone again

But thanks to this forum and this is why I signed up I read about spreading the springs with either nails or some wood scraps what a fantastic idea thanks a TON

Welcome to IRV2! It's great to have you join us!

Yep, you just learned your first valuable lesson. Don't try to do ANYTHING without running it up the flagpole here at IRV2! There's a good chance that someone here has figured out a way to do it quicker, easier, or less expensive! Enjoy the forum!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
