I'm baaaaaack!
Well, I am not actually a new member, but I have not logged in for
such a long time I might as well be. I murk* almost every day but
have not posted in quite a while I guess.
I unfortunately had to sell my lovely Cummins B5.9 12V Engine
with a Holiday Rambler wrapped around it, and am now breaking in
my "new" 1997 Pleasure-Way Excel-RL van on a Dodge Ram 3500 chassis
pulled around by a 5.2L V8 318 Magnum engine.

That 1997 is a good-looking camper. The 318 cubic inch displacement engines were great sweet engines.

Yes, it is. I research everything to death, and that is one reason I bought this rig. Cast iron block, cast iron heads, and the rest to match. It has a reputation as being just about bulletproof. Runs llike a charm, with 88,500 on it.
Downside is mileage. I just checked the in-town, and it is 9.4 mpg. Have not checked it on the highway yet. I found an old for-sale ad for the rig that claimed 14 mpg on the highway, but I do not know when that was. Hopefully I will still get that.
Happy Trails .....

Randm Musing, just always go down hill and it should get excellent gas mileage. We feel lucky to get 8 miles per gallon with our Class A diesel pusher.

You are right, of course!! And since it is down hill both ways I can just shut off the engine and get almost infinite gas mileage. Will likely have trouble with the gas going stale in the tank!!

Welcome back....Maybe after you do your (I just bought it and better start fresh) maintenance on it the mileage will improve. You know...plugs, wires, cap rotor, air and gas filter and new PCV valve, check vacuum wires for cracks etc, clean and adjust carb if it has one....and naturally, check that tire pressure...... You may get her up to 12-14! Good luck.
