Introduction
Hello all,
Happy to be a member here finally
Leading up to the purchase of my first class A diesel pusher, I studied this wonderful resource to begin my Motor home education (still quite the neophyte!)
Last week my wife and I purchased a 1995 Holiday Rambler imperial 37wds- it’s got the 8.3 Cummins diesel engine and Allison 6spd 3060 transmission. One super slide for the living room area

They are horribly dry rotted! Forgot to mention, that’s really the first major upgrade we’re doing
It was only a 2hr ride back from North Carolina, but I kept it at 55mph. It was driving so well though, I forgot and let it creep up to 65mph a couple times and freaked myself out when I noticed- remembering the state of the tires
Speaking of tires- I wanted to ask folks with more experience: the current shot tires are 270-65-22.5.
But I’m seeing better prices on 270-75-22.5’s. Do you all think it would make any difference to run the 75 vs 65’s?
Thanks

Welcome aboard Austin.
There should be no problem going up to a 75 tire, though I would check my speedometer against a Garmin @ 60 MPH just to see what the difference is, and then just make a mental note.
Simple Tire has their Sailun S637 on sale for $307.37 each and that's what I've run on my last 2 coaches without an issue.

Okay good to know, I’ll see about getting those ordered- do you think that tire is comparable to Michelin or Toyo?

Also I wanted to get other’s opinions on the price I paid for my 95 HR.
$6000
I thought it was a pretty good deal, considering it’s in relatively good shape, with new tires being the only immediate necessity. Especially since it was 168k new in 1995!

Yup, or more cost effective. My words for cheaper / better.
I started using them after talking to a LOT of OTR truckers, especially owner operators who have to buy their own tires.
Any decent tire shop can order them and with over 40K on my current set, they look brand new. I do keep them covered when I'm not on the road, and NO signs of sidewall cracking on any of them. Having steel rims, I can't use the "Retrobands", so I need to have a lot of faith in my tires, especially the fronts.
If you only paid $6K for that rig, with a pre DEF engine, you got a "steal" and if you put another #8K in her, you will have a great rig for a VERY reasonable cost.
Congrat's......

Good stuff, I’ll be putting a set of those on soon then
I’m unfamiliar with the terminology- what is a “retroband”?
And yes, the previous owner didn’t really take the time to understand what he had- he advertised it as a Cummins 5.9l, which I thought to be very unlikely in the particular coach- all my research having pointed to the 8.3 being the likely engine. And I also don’t believe he ever went over the service records (found them dusty laying under junk in an out of the way cabinet) that said the engine had been replaced with a new one in 2002
He was asking $8500, I offered $5500, and we settled at 6k
And my wife and I drove home happy.
Thanks for the recommendation 👍
