Just getting started! Spokane Washington
Hello all!
We have been saying that we should sell everything, get an RV and work from the road for years now, and we are finally doing it!
Getting the house empty enough to list it is a chore in itself! How did we acquire so much stuff? Stuff I have not even seen or needed in the years living here?
We just received our RV , MPG 3100 BHS, and since I am an I.T. / Network support person, I am already getting it dialed in with high tech stuff to hopefully make life on the road easier.
Next stop is as many solar panels as I can get, and some battleborn lithium batteries to be able to boondock for days at a time.
I have a million and two questions though about so many things, and I am already finding answers on here, so I thought it was time to create an account.
Thanks and see ya out on the road!
Joe

Hi Joe! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!
Congrats on the new rig! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!
I would suggest that you create a signature showing the make and model of your RV. It will help folks to answer questions you may have in the future.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Wait'll you see the wistful look on peoples' faces when you tell em, I sold everything and bought an RV... We did it, and feel like we are living the dream.
We are all kinda looking for the perfect solution to connectivity. Given your technical expertise, I'm looking forward to hearing about the solution you choose!
Love the layout of that rig. Room for a NORAD-style command center back there. Or a complete F18 simpit, which is where I'd go with it. My room!

Hi Joe,
Hubby and I are following in your footsteps from D.C. He is in IT and is concerned about connectivity so I am very interested in hearing how this works out for you. We are in a lease until August of 2022, so that is our pull the trigger date, unless the owner sells, then it'll be faster (kinda feel like that is in the works for some reason). We have one son going to college in the fall, and one will graduate high school June 2022, so we may have them with us when we hit the road. But I digress. Please keep posting, I'd really like to hear how this works for you so we can be prepared as well. Are you thinking satellite?
Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary,
Exciting to think about leaving it all behind and hitting the road isn't it! We are just ecstatic considering the possibilities.
As for internet things, satellite has a long round trip time making it useless for effective back and forth communications (like a zoom session) but it could be fine for just pulling something down one way, like a streaming video, etc.
I looked at the Mofi routers that you can put dual sim cards in, like an at&t and verizon, and with a little booster antennae on the roof, you can sometimes eke out a decent signal when those around you have no bars.
I also am looking at instyconnect, if you talk to Nick tell him Joe from Newman Lake Washington sent ya (close to Spokane)
Nick is just now starting to roll out a device that will let you lock onto multiple freqs from a cell tower, and even hop to another tower that maybe further away, less congested than the one everyone around you is trying to use. It is interesting tech.
Starlink is looking promising, but I am hearing rumors of them geofencing your setup, meaning if you move outside your area, it quits working.
I will continue to research, and maybe even spin up a theead in here on the topic once I get it dialed in.
