Long time lurker...it's time to pull the trigger
I started hitting this site almost daily about 4 years ago when my trophy wife of 43 years and I started entertaining the thought of quitting the rat race, downsizing and hitting the road to see this great country of ours before my kids wrestle my keys away from me. After 2 years of soaking up every bit of knowledge and advice posted here by all the wonderful people who selflessly contribute to these forums we bought our first RV, a 40 foot DP Monaco Knight. A year later we bid "hasta luego" to our S&B in Colorado to full time. We wake up every morning, ask each other if we're still having fun, and if the answer is yes we're off for another adventure.
I have slept on the ground next to my car in Yellowstone NP when I was 17 and woke up covered in snow one June morning. I have backpacked, motorcycle camped, car camped, airplane camped and camped in a tent in the snow in the Rockies in winter when I was a Scoutmaster. Oh, I almost forgot. The military sent me to 3 different 5 day courses for land, sea and jungle survival training in the late 60's. But, sore backs, weak knees and arthritis require more comfortable sleeping arrangements and we are very happy with our RV.
The learning curve has been exceedingly steep but all the great folks on these forums have made it manageable. I just didn't know what I didn't know. Thanks to you all, I'm learning.
As each Blue Angel says after the debrief of each practice flight: I'm happy to be here boss.

Yep. I'm a Phormer Phantom Phlyer. Navy, but I flew a lot of dissimilar adversary against you AF guys. Had a ball fighting the Triple Nickel guys at Luke for a week when they were just learning how to fight the new Eagle. Also flew a lot of Red Flag and AFFWS hops out of Nellis in the NFWS's A-4E Mongoose. Those were the days my friend.

I had a superior who had worked on F4’s before moving to F15’s. He told me that the F4 didn’t have weight on wheels deactivation of the radar package... then he tells me they used to aim the antenna at unsuspecting security guards on the flight line and turn it on until the security gaurds started to get hot
I don’t know how true the story is, but we were both mortified and amused at the idea.
I was stationed at Tyndall, my pilots were the fresh in training young kids you likely flew against. We had a healthy stock of F4’s and F105’s flown by civi’s against them as they progressed.
The F105 has just about got to be the loudest dang thing on take off I’ve ever heard. Two at a time was mind numbing Loud.
