I'd recommend renting a couple of different type RV's for a week to see what the differences are and if they matter to you. After a couple of rentals you'll have a much better idea what matters to you. Then hit the RV shows to see what the market place has.
Size matters - smaller is easier to maneuver but have less space. Get bigger and at a certain point having a tow vehicle (toad) makes sense. A significant benefit of a toad is you don't have to connect and disconnect the RV every time you leave the campsite. Nothing worse than pulling into the campsite for the night, get everything hooked up...and realize you hadn't stopped to get milk. with a toad it would have been no big deal. While it's not insurmountable everyone has to stop what they're doing as the entire house has to go to the store.
As you go up the size scale camping sites become less available and more expensive. But so does your storage/payload capability.
Towing a trailer is great if you already have a tow vehicle. Fifth wheels have great space but need a bigger tow vehicle.
Towed means no access to the leaving area, kitchen, bathroom, going down the road. Class A/B/C means you can drive until the driver has to stop.
Slide outs make the interior MUCH bigger. There's a reason so many RV's/campers/trailers have slide outs.
