Motorhome slide?

Hello Motorhome members.

I have been a Motorhome owner since 1991 which was a 26 ft 1982 Winnebago Brave. Loved it!
In spring of 2001 bought our 1999 35ft. Georgie Boy Cruise Master with 6700 miles on it and it now has 30230 miles on it.
Many trouble free years of use.
But yesterday I moved the motorhome forward at the race track with the slide out in the out position. Now the slide will not go in properly. We had the motorhome level when we moved the slide out initially then dropped the jacks to move it forward then leveled it again. Later in the day we went to move the slide in and it came in but not squarely. So we moved it in and out a couple times hoping it would correct itself. NOT!
Then it started coming in like it was doing a wheel stand. Bottom was coming in but the top was not coming in evenly with it or squarely with it.
I know I should not have moved the motorhome with the slide in the out position. I had to leave it at the track because the of the slide not coming in properly. We had to leave it in the out position.
Sorry for the long story but need some advise.
Thanks for any help,
Paul

Welcome to irv2. What type ( hydraulic or electric ) and mfg / model is your system. My elec power gear slides have a manual retraction method. Hopefully yours does as well but we need more info.

Thanks Clifftall for the reply.

It's electric. I will have to check when I go back to the track where it's sitting to see if I can find the manufacturer.
Yes it has a manual retraction. I had the batteries go down and had to use the crank to manually move it back in a few years back
Right now it's coming in so bad I'm afraid the crank will not help. It tries to come in just not like it should.
Is there something to look for under the slide?

Yes, look under the slide. If this is PowerGear, you should have 2 geared rails coming out from under it and attaching to the outside wall. At those 2 points is where you adjust how square the slides come in, top to bottom. It sounds like the slide dropped down an inch or more and why the bottom would come in, but the top would be gapped.

Take your larger wrenches, at least a 1 ton jack and enough blocking to jack the slide up. If it did drop, you should see the marks on the brackets where the slide was originally. Just make sure all rail bolts are loose before you start jacking.

Went to the track to check it out. Found where the two bolts that hold the motor assembly to the track. One had fallen out and the other was just sitting in the hole with no nut on it. Letting the track float up when it was trying to move in. Switched it over to Manual mode and used the hand crank to move it in the first time after we put new bolts and nuts in place. Worked like new after we went back to power mode.

Thanks for the warm welcome and good advise.

Hi Paul! Welcome to IRV2! It's great to have you join us!

I can't help with your problem, but I would suggest that you post questions over in the specific areas of the forum for best results. Not many folks hang out here in the Welcome area so your responses will be limited. Hope you enjoy the forum!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
