New Class A owner from Pacific NW

Greetings! This past week my wife and I became owners of a 1994 Coachmen Santara diesel pusher. We were currently owners of a 12' pop-top trailer, but had gotten tired of the set up/breakdown time, and also the lack of a bathroom. Originally, we thought we'd get a 20' TT but I stumbled on this rig in CL. It looked decent, had only 14,800 miles, and the owner was only asking $13,500.00. Compared to the prices on other diesel pushers, it was worth a look. Long story short, they were desperate to sell and I had cash. I offered $7,500.00, they came back with $8,500.00, and I said "Okay".

Since I bought it, it's been registered and insured, batteries replaced, and new tires ordered. Unfortunately, the roof sags a bit by the front AC unit , but for $8,500.00 what can you expect. I have a mobile diesel mechanic coming by Saturday to help me change the oil and filters and do a walkthrough inspection.

Have I lost my mind? We've always talked about getting a motorhome of some sort, but didn't want to go into debt for one. Not judging people who do; just not our thing, and frankly, we'd have to sell our house to buy a newer one cash! Needless to say this was bought on a whim, but outside of the roof issue, it's a really nice rig! If anyone knows of a quality RV roof repair shop in Western Washington, please chime in!

Anyway, look forward to your comments.

At that price, no, you haven't lost your mind, just a couple of parking spots lol. Sorry, can't recommend anyone for roof repairs locally. Those type of repairs are typically not that difficult, just labor intensive. Maybe a DIY project is in order. There are lots of knowledgeable rv owners on this site that are well versed in roof repairs of all sorts. You've found the right place to ask questions....

Enjoy your new DP adventures in the PNW!

There's a place called Squatch RV in Kent that I've seen doing some renovations on older RVs. I've never used them myself, so not a recommendation.

My plan is to stop any leaks from progressing and make sure it's watertight for the winter. I came with a cover, which was nice. I'll make a decision on roof replacement next spring, but it's going to get used either way!

If you can find or have acceas to a covered location I would not hesitate to strip everything off the roof remove everything down to the roof joists repair ant dqmage, lay new plywood and lay a new rubber roof membrain. Takes some time and a couple of guys to help you, but is doable you a decent DIYer.
