New from Albuquerque!
Just wanted to say hello to everyone here, and hope to make this a long-lasting relationship! I just purchased my first motorhome it's a Newmar dutchstar DP, 2002 4099 model. I can't be happier so far about my purchase, prior owners took awesome care of her and I hope to do the same. I'm currently in the Air Force and plan on retiring in the next two-three yrs, so it's going to be my home for awhile.

G'morning Livtwofly!!
WELCOME to the gang here at iRV2. Wife and I are headed your way from here in the Black Hills (S. Dakota) for a stay at the Balloon Fiesta starting Oct. 1st. Sure looking fwd. to visiting Albuquerque.
Our son is about to retire from Air Force out of McDill (Tampa) in June. He just returned from 4th tour in middle East (twice in Iraq and twice in Afghanistan). He's EOD...of all things!! So we're pretty glad he won't have to be heading back there again!!
So are ya going to hit the road at all this winter yet, or just short trips till next summer? I think you'll like your Dutch Star and the Newmar outfit. We started w. a Mtn. Aire but couldn't pass up a deal we ran into over in Tucson upon returning from Alaska in 07 so now we bounce around full time in an 08 Essex. We really like the Newmar quality.
Hey, by the way (btw), can you suggest a campground in the Albuquerque area for a night or two stay BEFORE we head into the Balloon Fiesta grounds on the 1st? We're coming in on I-25 from the North (Cheyenne, Denver, Colo. Springs, Santa Fe, etc.) and want to arrive a day or two ahead of joining the Newmar Kountry Klub group who'll be dry camping right adjacent to the launch field. Need to drain grey and black and fill water BEFORE heading in to the Balloon field grounds and thought you might have a suggestion.
Anyway...hope to meet you sometime down the road, and, again,...WELCOME.
Steve & Lynette

Chickadee, If you hav'nt been to Santa Fe, think about staying there for a few days. Its only a short drive to Albuquerque and lots to see in the area.

Albuquerque RV and Campground Parks:
The Balloon Fiesta campground is right at the event center. StageCoach RV at State Highway 528 and 550 and KOA in Bernalillo.. Both are within easy driving of the Balloon Park and both are quality parks.
There are a few parks out on I-40 West that are nice and good rates. American, Enchanted Trails, High Desert all good parks with American the nicest of the three, but the other two are just fine. All are full-hookup
The nicest Park in the North end is StageCoach (Fully Paved) and KOA pretty close 2nd. Coronado does not have sewer, but other than that, it's okay.
Don't consider being close to the Rio Grande a plus.. It is not
The Rio Grande is a mud-hole and filthy

Thanks guys for all the warm welcomes and I'm especially appreciative of the "thank you for your service" comments. Out of all the years of serving that comment has been all I've ever needed to hear, thanks again everyone. I'm definitely new to the RV life and I will have plenty of questions in the coming future.
