New Guy transplant to Florida

We bought a small place in Florida and are selling the former home. Our plan was to get a used motor home and travel around the states. We have no motor home experience but did have 2 travel trailers over the years as well as towing trailers hauling cars from PA to FL so we have some over the road experience. We joined the group to get some feedback on various units as to what works and what to avoid. We look forward to your input.

How much RV do you want? How much do you want to spend?
It's tough to judge prices these days since the market went crazy with COVID. We sold our 2016 Discover 40G diesel 3 years ago for $130K. It was a great rig and you should be able to get something comparable to that, maybe a few years newer in that range. If you are looking for something smaller, a nice gas 30 foot something might do. Decide if you want to tow a car. Whatever you get for a motorhome need to be able to tow it (say the difference between a jeep or a pickup truck).

Good luck

Thank you all for the replies. Our needs/desires in a motorhome changes for me constantly but as stated, we are not ready to buy just yet and have no time schedule so we are enjoying window shopping for now. Already reading some threads, I learned enough to point me in a little different direction. Many years ago I made a living as a mechanic and that Ford V10 had a few issues in the early years but as I recall it was really reliable after that. I notice that seems to be a very common powertrain in many units and I would not be afraid of that unit. I think the V10 was replaced a couple of years ago by what Ford calls the "Godzilla" 7.3 V8. Haven't heard much about it beyond some faulty coil pack wiring so that is likely a good thing. If we were to buy today, it would be a used gas class C able to tow at least 5000 lbs, about 30'-34' long and a dead minimum of at least 2000 lbs of cargo capacity. Again, that is today and can (likely will) change a lot. Again, many thanks and I am back to reading.

I was having a senior moment when I typed that. I tired to edit the post but could not figure it out. 30' would be about maximum and likely shorter than that.

well never had a class c, had class a an now a 5th wheel. looked at some class c's. 30ft should give u a good amt of room to enjoy an not be cramped.
If u buy new. inspect every part of it. top bottom, side. wood work. leave no stone unturned. don't assume cos its new its in good shape.
Used.... same as above. but, pay attention to tire date. DOT. tires look good but could be at end of life. battery condition. any signs it over heated, new repaired. Start it up cold, not pre started by a salesman. Have them hook up to shore power. ya got hot water?? lights work, ac work,, if has a slide does it go in/out without issues. this is just a few things to look for.
PS. The more units you look at the better u look at them.
