New in New York
Hello all, New to the forum and a motor home. We just traded our 5th wheeler in for a 2008 Newmar Ventana diesel and bought a 2007 JK Wrangler (4WD manual) as a toad. Installing tow package and wondering about connecting to the battery. Local dealer says disconnect negative cable as per owners manual and use direct connect kit I have. Is that sound advice? Also what gear should I leave JK in while towing? Highest, which is 6th?

Welcome to IRV2! It's great to have you join the gang!
Congrats on the new MH and the JK! I can't help with your questions about towing the Jeep. I would suggest that you post towing questions over in "RV Forums", then "Toads & MH towing" for best results. Not many folks hang out here in the Welcome area.
I would not tow that Jeep ONE INCH without specific instructions!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Seems like you would tow in neutral. If it has a Hi-Lo transfer case, neutral also. If you leave it in gear, won't it turn the engine over ?

Welcome, I just joined myself.. errr the forum.
Anyways , definitely seek experienced info on towing. You do not want to tow in gear. From what i can remember transfer case is usually left in neutral that way nothing but the wheels and driveshafts are turning. But seek out the towing forum for more exact info.

Howdy from NYC and SC and welcome to the forums! I can't help ya with the towing four down as we have a tow dolly but you did come to the right place to have all your questions answered.

Hi and welcome. Does your Jeep have a locking steering column? Our toad does so we have to turn on the key which lights some of the dash and can kill the battery on long enough trips so we disconnect the negative battery cable. You can buy on/off switches that connect to the battery to make it a little easier. Ours is a two wheel drive, standard transmission so it just gets put in neutral.
I think with a 4wd Jeep you put the transfer case in neutral and you can leave the shifter in any position. Best bet for advice here would be to post in the towing forum to get more views.
