Hi everyone, my name is Mike. Happily married with three boys, 4 year old twins and a 10 year old. After talking about buying an RV we have finally decided to take the plunge. We just bought ourselves a 1998 Georgie Boy, which we pick up from CA in July. We live in NY state, so we've definitely jumped in at the deep end. Our first trip with be 3000 miles due east stopping at my wife's parents home in OK on the way back. I'll definitely keep a journal. Any tips for the first time buyer and traveler would be appreciated

Welcome to the gang, Mike...and family! Sounds like you have a great adventure coming up. There's lots of first timer advice all over this set of forums. One of the best pieces of advice we received last year was to spend a day or three "testing out" your new wheels somewhere close to whomever you are buying from. That's not always possible, but it was helpful for us. Sometimes you just don't remember what things are or how to operate controls. It's a lot to remember. If you can find things like an online manual or other references, that can help too. I'm sure others will chime in with "first timer" recommendations. Good luck and safe travels!

Welcome Mike!
Sounds like a fun trip, let's hope fuel prices go down a bit...this can be an expensive lifestyle.

Take your time and enjoy your trip. Take breaks when needed. I've also kept a daily log ever since I started RVing. If you have trouble come in here for help.

Welcome and best of luck on you trek home.

You should do a search here for a PDI "Pre-Delivery Inspection" form that you can study and then take with you. I'm sure it was bought As Is but going through a thorough inspection will undoubtedly make your trip less likely to disappoint you. You want to make sure the water heater fires up, the fridge gets cold, where the circuit breakers and fuses are, do the AC units and furnace work, test the generator and check the oil.

Finding things like that failing or not checked for proper operation will definitely sour your trip home.
