New Member and New to RV Lifestyle

My wife and I are 5-10 years from retirement (we hope), and we have decided to pursue a dream we had 30 years ago when we moved to the USA; that is to tour this wonderful country in an RV.

We have a five+ year plan to ‘Death Clean’ our house and rid ourselves of decades of accumulation, then finally sell our house and hit the road.
Of course, this is a massive undertaking, but it will not be the first time we have made a major move and life-change, and we like to think that in some ways we are better prepared than when we were in our twenties, and we moved from the UK to the US with our two young daughters.
I am a believer in ‘listening and learning’. I love to research and make decisions based on the wisdom of others, tempered by my knowledge of how it relates to my circumstances.

All that said, I am very keen to get things rolling and gather as much information as possible so that when the time comes, we can embark on the next phase of our lives as well equipped as possible. I am quite sure that there are thousands of people just like us that have followed the same path, and we are keen to begin learning and benefiting from their experiences.

Hi Steve

Glad to have you here in the forum with us. You're gonna like it here.

If possible go to as many RV shows that you can. Some of the big ones like Tampa in January and Hershey in Sept are loaded with different types of RVs. You'll learn a lot there. You do need a few days to see each one.

Ask us as many questions as needed along the way.

Happy Trails!!!

from WA State.
I'm in the process of preparing to have an estate sale and hit the road. Late wife died in Aug 2016 and it was always my dream to go full timing. I'm 71 now so time is pressing since we don't know how much time we have.

Welcome! We are at the exact same spot in life as you. I have an 8.5 year plan to hit the road. We're starting to slowly rid ourselves of a lifetime of accumulated junk. The problem is that some of the junk has sentimental value. We're working through that. My plan is to pay off my current truck, trade it in for a 3500 that will pull our 5th wheel. In about 6 years we'll be buying the 5th wheel to take on weekend and week long trips. In about 7 years we hope to sell the house and will live in the 5th wheel full time for about the last year, year and a half before I retire. Then when I retire we'll simply pull up stakes and start rolling.

Hope to see you out there some time.
