New member check in.
Good evening y'all. My wife and I are days away from becoming full-timers. We searched for a year for a suitable (inexpensive and one we liked) motor home. We finally found one about 3 months ago, bought it (1990 Itasca Sunflyer - looked brand new in and out) and brought it home. We were beginning to learn the systems and liked the unit more each day. I took it to a shop to replace the driver side windshield, which was broken when we bought it. Installation went well and I started home. After a few blocks, I smelled smoke. Soon came to a stop light and shut it off and looked under the front and found the entire top of the engine covered with lazy yellow flames. Called 911 and used the tiny fire extinguisher inside the door to now effect. To shorten it - insurance company (fortunately wife took out full coverage) totaled it. We came out about what we had in it. Found #2 a week ago today. A little more money, but a huge lot more coach. It is a 1995 Winnebago Vectra. Inside is absolutely fantastic. Outside is a bit chalky, but will clean up nice. This unit has a huge list of options added, so is much more than #1. We are doing an overnight shake down cruise for the 4th. We will stay close to home. A few days after, we hit the road for good.
We will stay in touch with irv2.net. Have learned a lot already.
Jim

this is a great RV forum out of all the websites out there...seems to be really active. And we thought we had problems!! People are really good at giving advice when you ask. Other sites you can pose a question and never hear back. Are you going to full-time it? We have lived in ours for 3 years now and haven't looked back

Thanks to all for the responses. This #2 is amazing (I hate to use over-used words) but this one works. Every time we look around, we find something new and exciting. I was surfing irv2.net last night and found a lot of information that I really needed. I also discovered that a previous own had a Banks Power Pack installed. Everything looks good.
Thanks again,
Jim

There are several threads in the vintage forum for bringing the exterior gloss back to a new like finish, Zeps is the newest product being mentioned because the other one is no longer available from Lowe's.
