Howdy! Finally registered - have been scouring threads for weeks researching our first RV purchase. More questions than answers at this point. We're targeting end of year or early next year for purchase. We've been to 3 RV shows this year already!

I rented a Class C last fall and took it to a state park with my wife (DW) and 10 year old son - and we had a blast! Of course it was a learning experience for me also given a few problems with the rental (broken grey water valve, etc.) but it did not deter us.

We've been researching Super C's and are now leaning towards Class A DPs. Purpose is family camping and reunions for next 8 years until son goes to college, then possibly snow birding (dare I say, Full-timing?) as I near retirement (I'm 55 now).

I'm hoping to buy my last RV first! (We'll see how I do on that)

Smile First questions...

Thank you both so much for the warm welcome!

Would you be able to point me to the correct forum to post questions about:

1) Taxes, Ad Valorem, Property Taxes, etc. in GA?
2) Better to take delivery at state line if outside of GA?
3) What to expect at Closing? What's paid up front - is it more like a car purchase or a home purchase?
4) Can i get a homestead exemption? or does that apply?
5) What can I expect to pay for storage, maintenance, etc.? What should I consider when looking at storage locations - fences, 24 hr controlled access?

Not necessarily looking for the answers here - just where would be best to post... (remember, I'm a newbie who's trying to avoid surprises)

Thanks!
Daryl

1. In Georgia we pay the roughly 7% registration fee (sales tax) just like on a car with no yearly advalorem tax or property tax. Just purchase a $20 tag.

2. Your pay the Registration fee when registering and getting tag regardless of where vehicle is bought. You do get credit for tax paid out of state if purchased out of Georgia

3. Purchase is very much like a vehicle purchase not a house.

4. Since we pay no yearly property tax on a MH Homestead will not be of any advantage.

5. Cant help with this since I don't live in Atlanta area, but National Indoor RV in Lilburn is building a new storage complex near Gwinnett airport.

Thanks for the reply, Swerwin!

So it sounds like i need my down payment + 7% for sales tax at closing, not to mention other closing costs.

No annual ad valorem is good.

No annual property taxes, that's good!

Would i just get a standard residential first mortgage or would it have to be a special RV mortgage?

I saw National Indoor at a local RV show earlier this year - they sure had some nice Entegras there...there's an indoor loft-like place near me, but it would be like $360+/month ($9/linear foot) vs. a local lot fenced and covered for $65.

So much to learn... thanks again for your insight!

Our dealer arranged the financing through Bank of America, Not actually a home mortgage or car loan but is a Recreational Vehicle Loan for either 15 or 20 yr don't remember which. Their rate was better than my local bank and for a longer term with option to pay down early.

Shop it around

Forgot- Georgia just added a heavy vehicle road use fee of $50 for 15000-26000 pounds and $100 for over 26000 GVWR. This is a yearly fee
