Stick around!

Thin skins and online communities don't go together well.

I sure wouldn't let any comment run me off . . . if I see something that doesn't seem to fit the iRV2 acceptable behavior, either directed to me or anyone else, I just click the little exclamation point button, lower left, and report it. The moderators will deal with it - sometimes they agree with me, sometimes they don't. When they don't, that's when I figure I must have interpreted it wrong. It's a judgement thing.

Stick around, contribute, get to know the good folks here. Best online community I know of, you can help keep it that way.

Hello from Nixa

Sorry that you experienced the poor comments from a very select few on this forum. Not surprised who they were since they do it frequently. As stated already, the vast majority are stand-up people willing to share their knowledge. Stay with us and share your experience as well.

It's great to see such support in this situation.

Many great points have been made... including the importance of posting in a fashion which might question technical facts or conclusions, but is never aimed at an individual.

It's a well known fact that in a forum such as this, one might ask how to change a light bulb... and get 10 pages of replies on why the bulb might not need to be changed, why it wasn't needed in the first place, or why buying the new LEDs would be a much better approach.

We all need to try to tailor our replies to be more in line with the OP's question, and to also learn that we don't have to "react" to every single reply. Some are worthless and should be viewed as such. As Joe said, FIDO.

Moderators take actions as Lori described, but we do not use a fine tooth comb to edit out everything which might seem a little off topic or unnecessary to an OP.

It's all part of this "internet thing".

Thanks for the support.

Rick

Bronk, well said! To the OP, I too wish you would reconsider. You will find as many if us have, that IRV2 is very civil. The mods do a great job maintaining the mission statement. I have posted a couple of replays that were out of desperation due to no factual reference and what IMO was just nasty! Hang in here at IRV2. Your efforts will be rewarded many times.

Engineering Expert,
(Don't know your name.)

I think you handled your situation on rudeness very well in your post #14 regarding "security camera's." You also invoked a few apologies. The problems is:

The written word cannot disclose the smile, wink, upturned brow, or other facial expressions that may render what is being said a cute reply instead of sarcasm. I've made the mistake and I have been admonished for a few posts. It may happen to a great majority of posters, especially when you consider some, like me, that can be verbose at times.

As stated, there is much to gain from sticking around. Don't be afraid to dish it out as it is received, but in a nice way - I hope. We all learn from our mistakes. Sometimes it takes two.

As a person who is not willing to allow negative comments and what I consider rudeness, I will be taking my online RV enthusiasm elsewhere.

I will be able to see the country, attend my first of many (I hope) rally's and meet people in person.

Good luck to all.

I am sorry that you are leaving but please give IRV2 another chance. I, too posted something this past summer when we were 2000+ miles from home and had a problem with a recall on our MH. I received some, in my opinion, pretty nasty replies. I decided that I would not ever post anything again but the next day I read many, many more positive replies than the negative ones and didn't leave.

You can learn a lot about RVing on this forum and if you have a problem someone will be able to help.

Anyone with an experienced eye to RVing lifestyle questions such as your Security Thread can clearly see what went wrong there and why.

You did not disclose enough information about your RV use in your initial question - and asked about security systems. You got mixed results covering a broad range of use. Campers saying they never needed it - tech types with ideas - folks interested and not based on their use not YOUR use.

You then went knee jerk and hopped on your soap box (your word), describing YOUR USE - and how others were rude for not having read your mind - or better still - you didn't like their responses even though they worked for them and THEIR USE.

When I read your second post and reaction, I looked for your Introduction Thread - not required of course - but to see what I could learn about you and your RV - RVIng history - etc. There was nothing there. I decided not to reply to that - but now I see you are leaving. Which btw - is not a required thread either.

So hear's a thought. Go to New Members - create an Intro Thread - tell us about yourself - your rig - why you are here - etc - instead of taking your ball and going home. Where we stand now - I don't care what you do because you seem to be as much a part of the problem as the replies you didn't like. It's your call - but be thoughtful here - do you honestly think in 13 or 14 posts you have sized the situation up and decided iRV2 is not worth your time? Well that may be right for you, but you're wrong. JMHO. Some need to be coddled. Some will coddle you. Some will tell it like it's. Some don't have a clue. Who are you?

To the OP- I think this is what we call "tough love", and I believe that's the way Steve meant it.
Still hoping you'll change your mind!

as the way i see it, you must be seeing that most of us here are kind hearted/very helpfull or else you would of just left w/o a word. hopefully your reading all the comments. on 3 other sites not rv related ive been a moderator and a supermod, dealt with tons of idiots, an also made some friends that i wish they lived closer to me. the world takes all kinds . an the best keep on trucking thru, not even thinking of ones that make the bumps in the road, been here few months myself and have loved every minute of it. learned a lot, helped out a bit, dont let the crack in an egg stop you from making an egg sandwhich, stay an enjoy life here.

First of all let me say:

Welcome and glad to meet you!

When I first started posting in some forums, not particular RV forums, I also had something of a "thin skin" and took offense where none was actually given, at least not intentionally. Unfortunately things that might seem fine to most members may indeed be offensive to some. For that I am sorry for everyone here.

Please reconsider. I belong and am active in 4 separate RV forums and you will tend to get similar responses in all of them.

Oh well, if so it is his loss. The excellent members here have spoken. He has to take the initiative now!

I agree. He'll soon find out that some of the other forums are not as "friendly/helpfull" as this one.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for someone with only 15 posts to be TOTALLY disgusted with this forum.

There are more underlying issues to this than what has been written.

His loss and our gain. That makes more room for others.
