New Member, new to RVs, shopping, learning

Hi all,

As it says in the title, I am new at this. I will try to search for answers before blowing up the forum with duplicate questions -- unless I'm standing with a slick salesperson and need to know something real fast

I rented a couple of different travel trailers and took them out a few times to test whether I liked doing the trips as much as I imagined. And yeah, I do.

Most of the things I didn't like about the travel trailer were probably due to my inexperience. However, since the issues were mostly about getting in and out of places, advice to me has been to try 5th wheel instead. The literature I have read so far indicates there may also be other advantages to 5th wheel. I suspect the disadvantages will reveal themselves as research continues, but for now, I am shopping for a 5th wheel RV.

Keep in mind..
Your 1st coach is a learning tool..
When You tour/view "In Person" any perspective coach..
View it First with all slides retracted,
If the coach is fully usable without the slides extended, then give it a second look.
(Think wally-docking,rest areas,truckstops...any where that you cannot/do not have room for the slides to be extended)

BUY USED! & buy one with everything you "think" you want and will need..
IF the perspective coach seems a bit small but still "DO-Able" .......REMEMBER!!!
What seemed small... becomes unbearably TINY after being Coop'd up" for a week or more due to weather...
(AKA.....Cabin Fever)
And.... You WILL make mistakes and have booboo's We all have.....(sometimes more than twice..)
Within a year or two you will discover..about the RV

What you love about the RV...
What you can kinda-sorta tolerate with the RV..
And what you absolutely hate about that !@#$%^%$#@! RV.
Then you can go get what you should have gotten in the first place..
Happy Hunting

Welcome to the forum. There are advantages to a fifth wheel trailer. Just note that a fifth wheel puts a much heavier load on the rear axle than a travel trailer (TT). The tow vehicle needs a bigger cargo capacity than for a TT. Thus, a heavy duty tow vehicle (TV) (3/4 ton or, better, a one ton) is usually required.

Please keep us updated on your progress and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I think you will like the 5th wheel much more! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Welcome to the forum.

You are joining a good group of folks here with good info to share. We camp in a MH so not much info on TT or 5th wheel

Enjoy the adventure!
