New Member-no clue

Hello everyone. I've been passively looking for a travel trailer to redo and 3 days ago I found it. My husband I have absolutely no idea what we're doing but are looking forward to a new lifestyle. We'll be remodeling all winter and perusing the sites for info. I could use some direction to find the correct area to find out how to paint the walls of a trailer (we have extensive knowledge in home remodeling) as I don't know if special care needs to be given to the walls before painting. Also, where can I find the exact weight? It's an old trailer, 1989 and the sticker/plate is unreadable in it.
I'm really looking forward to gaining knowledge and relaxing when we finally take it out!

Welcome to the forum Cynthia. You have come to the right place.

I don't think anything special is needed to do painting. It's a home on wheels.

What a fun project. Take lots of pictures and post your progress. You will learn a lot doing this.

As for the weight, take it to a public scale and weigh it. No posted placard would be as accurate.

One of the best tools on this forum besides the thousands of talented folks is the search feature up top. Go to the little box that says "powered by Google". Put your question or key word there. It will do a filter for the forum and come back with tons of information and links back to the site. Don't try to use the search area that is just below that. It is about useless.

Cynthia,

Welcome to the Forum! This is where the clueless come to get their clues. I did.

Check out a thread called "Total Rebuild". It is long but I think the beginning will interest the two of you. Take the time to read through it. Terry is a wealth of information.

Best of luck! LB

Welcome to the forum and RVing....soon
Re painting. .. I'm assuming it is some sort of paneling.
If so defnitely clean it first and you are getting any sort of discoloration wiping it down afyer cleaning you might consider using a stain killing sealer primer as a start.
I'd hate to put the effort into painting and have something bleed through a light colored paint.
If you paint any cabinets I highly recommend cabinet paint available from Home Depot website... ship to store free if one near you.
It's water based urethane paint and very durable and washable. Clean up EZ but may take 2-3 coats to cover anything dark.
I liked it so much have staryed using it for all white trim work & doors at home.

Best bet for weight is to fond a truck scale and have it weighed...not expensive.
Don't forget to add tongue wt to the scale wt.
You should be able to get that w a home scale under jack... use a plank & blocking under one end scale under other if wt is higher than scale capacity.
You will need to figure the mutiplier to apply to the scale wt read.
X2 if jack is in the middle
X3 if jack 1/3 of distance and closer to blocking
Etc
