New Member, really long time RVer
I first started RVing in 1962 in. S. Calif. with a conversion Chevy Corvair. No pop top, and interior similar to the VW Westfalia. Owned that for 7 years, and next was a Class C Dolphin. A couple of Winnies followed. Then built out a Dodge Maxivan which had been widened to 8' (and was a 16 passenger buss) to an RV, which slept 4. (about this time we were also building a 38 foot sailboat). Along the way had a Southwind which slept about 8 and used that for Ski camping at Mammoth Mountain. We took 4 years in mid life and cruised a 62 foot sailboat Calif. to Europe and back. We purchased a VW van we converted in Europe to sleep 4 and did inland travel there. Back in Calif., a fleetwood gasser was next Then our first Diesel pusher--probably one of the first Winnebego DP made--many problems, but it was our home for 6 months out of the year--the other half was cruising our sailboat on the Inland Passage to Alaska for 5 years. After we settled in Florida and sailed out Cal 46 to Pensacola, we took the Winnie DP on a 5 month trip to Alaska. Next we had a couple of short Allegros, and then a Holiday Rambler Admiral 30. About 8 years ago, we purchased a 2 year old (2007) Holiday Rambler Ambassador PDQ 40, and used that to show our grandkids most of the USA over 6 summers. The Grandkids have outgrown the summers with "Gramps and Mimi", so we are considering down sizing. That sums up 65 years of owning RV's!
We like the Thor Axis/Vegas 24.1 for the layout. But coming from a coach with solid wood, dual pane Windows, air bag suspensions, etc we have some reservations about the Thor. We want to keep the RV small enough to avoid towing a "Toad", yet big enough for a sofa in the front, and a walk around true queen, or two good sized singles in the back. We also need the capacity to tow a 4500 lb 22' Cabin Cruiser at times. (We had owned a Road Trek 19 Popular, which we kept in Calif. as our "condo" there, but that is too small for my wife.)
Currently getting the HR ready to sell, and looking for a replacement--I am nearly 81, and have very significant heart disease, so we are also considering what my "child bride" might use when I have moved on to that highway in the sky.
This is a great set of forums, and I have dropped in to read posts along the way.
I have been active in HR and Monaco forums recently.
