New member waiting to get started

My wife and I have purchased a 1987 Southwind, 33 foot with 30,000 miles, and are waiting for the Mechanic to fix some minor problems so we can take it back to the RV dealership, for the 3rd time, to make more repairs. Once they are done, we will be leaving for our maiden voyage trip to Montana. June 6th is my dad's 92nd birthday.

We have 3 children and 6 grandchildren, we are in our later 50s and have owned tents and travel trailers over the years. This is our first foray into the world of class A's and we are excited to get started

Bernice & Russell;

Your post brings back many fond memories. Our first entry into the world of camping was the purchase of a 1987 Pace Arrow in 1992. I was 52 years old. A close friend encouraged me to by pass the tents and pop ups and start out with a Class A where he thought I would end up anyway. We started right out camping with our grandkids which totaled 6 as well. We made a list and went down the list. After we completed the list they said Grandpa can we start over on the list?

I hope you enjoy camping with your grandkids as much as Bev and I have. You will make memories that will last a lifetime. I also hope you enjoy this website as much as we do.

Don

Grandpere....here is some decent advice....do some local overnite or driveway weeklong camping in your MH. Make sure that you are comfortable with the features....back it out of the driveway and take it on the highway to get a feel for the suspension and road drift you get from the rig. I took mine out as you have described...just drove off on my first adventure. It was not as much fun as it was exciting. My rig drifted all over the road...it needed this and that and i need education. Today I am 15 -20 adventures into the ownership and more comfortable with the rig...plus I have worked on many systems and understand them.

Welcome to the irv2 gang, Berniece & Russell! Hope all goes well with the repairs and you get a chance to test out things before your maiden voyage. As mentioned above, you can save yourselves some headaches if you get a chance to make a test run or two. Good luck and enjoy!
