ABOUT US

We are Steve and Cathy Cox age 71 and 68. We have been best friends since age 17 and 15 respectively. We were high school sweethearts who married in 1970. I believe you should always marry up and in terms of talent, skills, beauty, ability, and personality………I succeded!

After college Cathy and I spent four years from 1970 to 1974 in the Marine Corps on Active duty and retired from the USMC Reserve as a LtCol. During our Marine Corps Active Duty Cathy provided us with the perfect mix of one boy and one girl in 1970 and 1973.

In 1974 we transitioned to the civilian world, but in 1976 I returned to the Federal Government on the law enforcement side of the house. I became a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service and Cathy entered the world of a working State Department wife, following her husband around the world for the next 19 years. After seven years outside the U.S. (three of these years in Africa – Zaire and Kenya) we returned for our final tour of duty in the U.S. I retired from the Foreign Service and immediately started work as a contractor/consultant for several law enforcement agencies. Part of this time was spent in the Middle East and Eastern Europe managing counterterrorism training programs in several countries. I also served as a Magistrate in the Virginia 19th Circuit Court. Cathy put up with moving our family around the country and around the world 21 times so far……and she has the patience of a saint!

We have two grandsons, one age 18 and one 12. Our family lives in the Northern Virginia area and we are fortunate enough to also own a 25-acre farm at the base of the Blueridge Mountains (Amissville, VA) and a home in Hamilton, VA. I still do consult work for a federal law enforcement agency, but our plans are to transition to full-time RVers within the next 6 months. Our plan is to sell our house (and almost everything else we own - translate…become minimalists), purchase an RV and spend the next several years crossing America. Cathy is recovering from Hip Replacement and Full Knee replacement surgeries so we anticipate putting our plan in motion as soon as she feels comfortable enough to start our journey. Update, we signed a contract with a realtor last night (Oct 25, 2019), and we believe we can have our house sold by February, and purchase our coach and be on the road as Boomer Nomads in March/April of 2020.

To conclude our family history, we have two dogs - Cavachons (Abby and Gibbs). We have been fortunate to have such a wonderful and adventurous life living in foreign countries and learning about different cultures. To the best of my knowledge, no one in our family would change anything about how and where we have lived and consider ourselves lucky to have had so many fantastic opportunities.

Our current RV “selection”, (after two years of research, discussion and meeting other owners) has changed from Air Stream to 5th Wheel, to Toy Hauler to a……….USED Class A Diesel Pusher Newmar or Tiffin. We plan to purchase our coach as soon as we sell our home. We will have a RAV-4 as a toad. We previously had a Class C which we thoroughly enjoyed. We sincerely hope to be “on the road” within 6 months and we also hope to see many of you as we travel. We wish you all safe and wonderous travels!

Welcome to the forum. What a great life story.

You are joining a good group of folks here with good info to share.

Being somewhat biased ...you can't go wrong with a Tiffin.

Good luck and enjoy your next adventure!

Welcome from Northern Va. You two are a couple years ahead of us, but looks like we had a very similar path. Nothing like a good long relationship to settle into your golden years with.
