New RV'er from Southern Ca

Hi everyone...I just joined last night...since I'm unfamiliar with not only RVing but forums as well, it took me 3 hours to figure out how to join and this morning to discover this "Newbie-intro" spot exists...so please bear with me.

My signature pretty much tells it all...Retired Navy and retired law enforcement and now ready to try to find tranquility We ordered a 2015 Winnebago View 24M 3 weeks ago. Small enough to store behind my fence in my driveway but (hopefully) large enuff for me, my wife and two dogs...9 lbs and 83 lbs. to not feel cramped. I barely know the difference between a grey tank from a black tank, but I suspect with trial and error on everything RV and a bunch of help from this site...I'll learn. I "think" I joined the "Sprinter Chassis" group so last night I posted a question about whether or not I should invest in a dolly to tow my wife's Prius. So, do questions posted in the Sprinter group only stay in that group...in other words there may be others pushing larger rigs who may have an answer to that common question but does it mean they won't see it unless I post in their group?

In any event...I'm happy to have found IRV2 and hope one day I can be a contributor to others with questions.

Hi there Donut lover,

A warm west coast welcome to the club! Absolutely no worries as none of us here were born knowing this RV stuff! There are a bunch of super friendly and helpful folks here and if you search for a particular question, I'm sure it's here somewhere.

Happy camping days ahead!

At times it seems like a huge learning curve here.

Welcome to iRV2. Oh, you'll learn here all right. I joined a few years ago for that purpose. My wife (aka DW=darling wife here) and I are going to purchase either a 40 or 43 foot DP (aka diesel pusher motorhome here) sometime next year and I have never even driven a motorhome before. We are going to sell our home (aka S&B=stick and brick home here) and start to Full Time (aka travel across the country wherever we feel like going and staying in RV parks here and there as we go) after she retires in 2016.

HOT TIP: When a question or need for a specific topic comes to mind, I utilize the iRV2 "search" bar at the top to find the information I need. Since I'm retired, I'm able to spend many hours researching specific topics and downloading photos of projects others have paved the way for me.

Speaking of retirement, I retired after working for 33 years in Law Enforcement (aka LE here) in So Cal too. Didn't get to go to Viet Nam though, President Nixon ended the Draft just as my number was coming up. Besides, the war would soon end and I don't do well in the humidity. I suppose I would have done okay in Iraq because as they say "it's a dry heat". We spend our summers boating on the Colorado River between Needles and Lake Havasu so I'm used to the heat.

Good luck on your quest, Clancy

Unfortunately, not my retirement photo. My look in the late 70's.

Welcome to the irv2 gang and congrats on your Winnebago View purchase! Those are nice "wheels." The Sprint chassis with the Mercedes engine is a nice foundation for a MH built on efficiency.

I also want to thank you for your service to our country both in the military and as a civilian. We appreciate your years of dedication and service!

Jump right into these forums. There's lots of information to be found here and some great folks to answer questions and just connect with. Glad you're here!

Welcome aboard and get ready for the time of your life. If you go the "RV Forums" tab at the top of the page, you can then go to "Motorhome Forums" and select the link for "Toads and Towing". You will find many diverse thoughts and opinions. I did the same thing when we purchased our Class A. Darling Husband wanted to use a tow dolly. I did not. We now tow our 2008 GMC Acadia 4 down because the suv was too wide for one, but I'll take a win any way I can....snicker,snicker.
