New to Full-Time
Hi, Sue & I are newbies not only to the forum, but to RVing as well. We retired 2 years ago and sat around as slaves to the lawn. Home Depot and Lowe's were our most frequented spots, with the plumbing and electrical departments holding the most excitement for us ... We finally decided enough was enough! We have 7 kids and 25 grandkids spread over 4 states (Idaho, Arizona, Illinois and Texas), and were to busy maintaining our home to spend much time seeing them! So, we decided to sell the house, buy an RV and jump right into the full-time fray!
After only 1 month as full-time, we've learned a lot ... first, don't EVER buy an RV sight-unseen!!!! We did, taking the owner's word for it's condition (that was mistake #2). We bought an "entry-level" 1997 Georgie Boy Cruise Air. So far, we've replaced the rear A/C unit, had the auto-level jack system worked on and are on the waiting list at a local RV shop to have the Kohler generator repaired. EVERYONE works on Onan, but NOT Kohler (that's another lesson we learned).
With all the things I COULD complain about I have to say we're having a ball!! We're fixing the coach up to fit our tastes and leaning a lot about how much of what people have around the house which really isn't NECESSARY! When you go from 2000 sq. feet down to around 400 sq. feet, you learn in a hurry how much "extra baggage" you've been carrying around for all those years!
We're really excited about this new life-style and are anxious to get out on the road (once we're sure that we have all the bugs worked out of the coach first)!
I'm glad to have found the website. I've already learned a lot by reading through previous posts. So, wish us luck as we head out into the great unknown!

You're embarking on a great adventure! We went full time a year and a half ago. The freedom of not owning a house is amazing. One thing will carry over though: as an RV owner you will still know the folks at Lowes and Home Depot by name!

Thanks, Bruce. 10-4 on the Lowe's & Home Depot! But in reality, I love doing projects, so I'm looking forward to keeping up the "hardware store relations".

Welcome to the forum.
Your positive attitude and sense of adventure puts you way ahead of the average "newbie" to this lifestyle.
1. Don't sweat the small stuff.
2. It is all small stuff.
Enjoy the best way to live.

Welcome to the best site ever! We've only been full timing for about 6 months now and the only problem we've come across so far is where to go next! DH has family here in Indiana and that's pretty much where we've stayed. I must say that the temps and humidity here has pretty much dictated where we "want" to go! Being from Calif this weather has spanked us good! Looks like we'll have to head back to Calif late next month to get meds and SS started. Other than that, this is the first time in my life that I've managed to get a half way decent tan!
Best of luck and welcome to iRV2!!!!!

Hi Sue and Kingair02!
We are about to embark on the journey that you've bravely started. We are nervous and tentative but we are adventurers and dreamers. So I'm thankful that you've been so open about the mistakes you've made. We're trying to make as many of the "right" decisions we can the first time, learning from everyone on the boards.
Congrats on your family! Wow what a legacy! Anyhow hello and welcome!

Kind of sounds like our life style with just a couple of days per week to work. Our day will come when we can be free to move about.
This is a GREAT site and the users and their advice have saved us $$$ and time.
