New to IRV2

Greetings everyone;

I am new to the RV community. Recently, my husband and I bought a 2011 coachman sports coach 406QS, 27,000 miles, 4 slides. It’s our second A class RV, first one was 30 feet. We are planning start our travel plan next May, very excited but I am kind of nervous as well, because it is pretty big.

I am looking forward to hear from you and share our story!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sharon

Welcome aboard Sharon. I hope you and your husband have as much fun as we do. We went from a 30 foot TT to a 31 foot Class A. I wanted to stay a little under 35 feet. I see so many beautiful 40 foot rigs on the road but like you appear to be, I was a little nervous about the size.

However, among these forums are a LOT of experienced users with large rigs who assure me they are no big issue. Just take your time and get used to it. Once you do, you will never notice the difference. Except for the space

Seriously, as we travel and camp, we meet so many folks in larger rigs who have no problems at all. I think you will do fine.

See you on the road.

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new rig. You will get used to the size. We went from a 24 ft. Class C to our 40 ft Class A DP this spring and it took about a day to get used to it.

You are joining a good group of folks here with good info to share.

Enjoy the adventure.

Sharon, so happy for you and your husband, the coachman was on my list when looking as well, you’ll be just fine with the length once you get moving, it will grow smaller as time goes on . Enjoy it.

Welcome aboard!!

Where are you headed in May and for what period of time?

I don't think you will even notice you're 10 feet longer other than the added space inside.

Hi Sharon

Glad to have you here with us. You'll find driving a 40' will be a little unsettling in the beginning, but in just a short time you will find it easy to drive. Just take it slow, ask other rivers for tips and have fun with it. Let us know if we can help you.

Happy Trails!

Coachman is lovely, I think my husband will do most driving at the beginning, I need a lot practice before I get on the road .

You'll learn quickly to drive your rig and be very comfortable doing it. At first it may feel like it takes a lot of work to keep it going straight down the highway without a lot of steering corrections. A good hint giving to me by a pro is to look further down the road rather than focusing on the ground immediately at the front end of your motor home.

Best wishes for a lot of fun and adventure.

This is the exact advise I give students when coaching from the right seat in their car on the race track.

As to the OP’s concern, I have now taken two trips in our new to us 45 foot DP, after a few years in a 26 foot class C. Surprisingly it has been a much easier transition than expected. It’s actually much easier to handle on the open road than was our smaller rig. In town, learning to properly take turns was the biggest challenge, and it’s getting easier. So, I’ll add to the sentiment expressed by others, and tell you not to be intimidated with the size of your coach.
