New to irv2 looking for info
We have a TT but are considering an upgrade to a FW or MH. We have been camping for over 10 years and have the TT down pretty good and we think we can translate that into a FW. We have been looking at Class A as far as MH and are leaning that way. There is just so much to consider with the MH. We would like it to last 15 - 20 years. Is there a particular manufacturer(s) that seem to hold up to regular use better? Is that too much time for a MH without major issues? Should we be looking at a newer used or a new one? Prices seem to range all over. The same model and year can vary by tens of thousands. How do you make sense of it all? We live in central PA and have attended the Hershey show for several years except this year. We are looking to upgrade between now and Spring of 2015 so we have time. We just need help from people who have been in our shoes. We can learn from others so we don't make the same mistakes. Thanks in advance for your help.

Of course it's ultimately up to you. After seeing so many complaints about new rigs with issues, and the HUGE depreciation hit on buying new, I decided to start with a used unit. My criteria included: Class A diesel pusher, jacks, not too long, no slides. I watched Ebay for many months and got a feeling for prices and products. I never visited a dealer or went through new units at shows.

So much depends on how you intend to use your RV. if you're looking at heavy use for 15-20 years I suggest you look at diesel pushers that will be 3-5 years old when you purchase.
My wife and I have lived full time in our DP for going on 7 years now. It turned ten years old this year and I can tell you with absolute confidence that it can do 10 more. The main thing you have to do is decide what your needs and expectations are for the use you intend.

Welcome to IRV2, there is a wealth of information here if you take the time to do the research. It seems you have given yourself plenty of time to make a good decision. I would recommend a DP for your time frame, but it depends on the type of use you plan on. First I would go to shows and visit manufacture's web sites to see whats out there and put together a list of "Must haves", "Nice to haves" and Don't care about". When you get an idea on a few makes and models, go to different web sites like Ebay or RVTrader.com, NADA,com and check pricing on the models you have chosen and see how new your budget will allow you to go. Be thorough and don't compromise on your standards and you'll find your dream machine that will give you years of enjoyment. Just My $0.02. Good Luck and Happy Trails...
