New to RVing, and the site

Hi all

My name is Dani and I'm new to both the site and RVing. My husband, (new to that too haha--we got married 07/07/14!) Toryn, and I are planning to purchase an older bus to convert in the near-ish future, with the goal of eventually living on it full time.

We're really excited to have a project to sink our teeth into (he's a machinist, I'm a graphic designer, and we both like to build things) and make it just the right custom rig for us. Already getting lots of inspiration for finishes and layout from the forums and hoping to find a nice community here, both in the conversions forum and otherwise. I'm sure there are many many cross-over concerns and conversations between RVs and conversions!

All the best,
Dani

Did a bus years ago. Turned out pretty good thanks to the leadership of my father. He was both a mechanic and a carpenter so I had access to most of the skills needed to do the work. Took us two years to complete the project as I was working full time.

We converted a 40 school bus. Next project would have been a MCI or Prevost but the school bus lasted for years.

Undertaking such a task is bigger than you anticipate so the free advice is to plan carefully all of the amentities and conveniences you will build into your floor plan. Also start construction by totally gutting the interior and starting from the outside with adequate insulation.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes

We're fully expecting it to be a multi-year project and are already starting to rope in the electrician/mechanic/plumbing friends to help out

We are lucky that we live on a farm so have somewhere to put it while we work on it over the long-term... I'm sure, though, that no matter how big a project we *think* it will be, it will be much bigger by the time we are done!

I'll definitely be trying to document the whole process and will post updates on here as well...

Happy RVing, all!

Dani
