New with Vintage Winnie
Hi! We are new to IRV2 & new to RVing. We took our maiden voyage from Norman, OK to Kirkwood, MO (just outside St. Louis) the beginning of June. We have a 1985 Winnebago Chieftan 33' which has been impeccably maintained. We started with fresh batteries & a fix to the cab AC. On the way home, it overheated about 100 miles from Springfield. After getting it cooled down & adding coolant, I nursed it through a cool rainy day to Springfield with a loss of charging to the main battery noticed about 30 miles out. My experience as a school bus driver paid off. At the CG we lost power to a lightening strike (to the CG, not to us). They recommended a repairman who came to the site the next morning. We had a dried up & broken fan belt. With it replaced, we were on our way home. We got home Tuesday evening & by Thursday noon had 2 warning tickets for parking the RV in front of our home. 1) for having an oversized vehicle on a residential street 2) for having the RV there for over 24 hours. The rig being too large to fit in our driveway (we found out that's not permitted either) , it is now safely stored at a lot. We have some maintenance to do & some spiffing up we want to do before our next excursion the end of July.
Btw, I am disabled, but hubby still works full time. Hope to do at least 3/4 time once he retires. I need a home base for medication management.

Greetings. We left Norman 8 months ago in our almost-vintage Winnebago. Luckily, we lived on an acreage and were able to take care of many maintenance tasks that may have been neglected by the previous owner before traveling. Fluid changes and attention to rubber items (treat or replace) were a priority. There will always be plenty of things needing attention on the coach, but preventive and routine maintenance on the chassis is much easier done before hitting the road.

Howdy from SC and welcome to the forums. I feel your pain with the parking problems. We live in a gated community and are not allowed to store our RV on our driveway for more than 48 hours (we still park it for up to a week when preparing her for a trip). We found a storage yard 1 mile from home that is locked, and covered and costs us 500.00 a year!

Welcome to the gang, Melody, Mike & Jake and congrats on your new-to-you Chiefton wheels! Everyone here at irv2 recommends a "maiden voyage" to learn things about your RV, so it sounds like you were successful on that point at the beginning. Please don't talk too loudly about issues with RVs in driveways...ours is sitting in the driveway now while we prep for a July trip. I don't want our neighbors to get any ideas.
Good luck getting the kinks out and getting back on the road!
