New2iRV2

Hello all! My name is Tim and I will be purchasing my first motorhome very shortly but I am not new to the RV lifestyle. My parents own a 1999 Winnebago Adventurer which they purchased new and I have logged thousands of miles behind the wheel. I also fulltimed for over two years in the motorhome at Manate Grove campground in FL. I have settled on a couple "new to me" Newmars, a 3401 and a 3113. One of the rigs is out of state for me and from a private seller. I found a good article from RV Blogger with a lot of great info and tips on purchasing from a private seller out of state. If anyone has any experience with this and would like to share your lessons learned I would be much obliged. Looking forward to sharing my journey with you all.

Hire a Certified RV Inspector to do a complete check of ANY RV, instate/out of state
Worth the cost to weed out the pig in a poke or scams

First the disclaimer:
Every state is different, every person is different, every situation is different.

We bought our two coaches from private out of state sellers. Both times the sellers owed money to a financial institution. In one case, the seller owed considerable more than what I was buying their coach for.

I used my credit union and the sellers bank (they held the title) to transfer money into a escrow account. Once the sellers paid their bank the difference between the owed amount and the selling price, the sellers bank had the seller come in and sign the title over to me, and the bank mailed me the title.

I checked with my DMV about tags. They informed me to simply drive the motorhome from the sellers house to mine using the sellers tags. Then I had the sheriff drive out to my house, check all of the things he had to check (VIN number and a few safety items) then I went to the county clerk's office to officially transfer the coach to me and got my tags. I mailed the sellers tags back to the seller as per agreement.
