Newbie From Arkansas

Thanks for the add!

Well after a friend of mine started posting amazing pics of his boondocking trip across America...I've got the itch. Of course I started researching RVs and watching YT videos for days. My head is swimming to say the least!

I'm 56, retired AF and working on my second retirement (chicken houses...over a year left on current contract). I'm thinking I want to plan a trip from here in AR then head to MD where I have family I haven't seen in a few years. Then was just planning on heading west from there.

One main issue holding me back is zero experience with RVing or any type of camping. Not even as a kid in the back yard with a cheap tent. It's something I've always wanted to try but just seemed to find some excuse to put it off.

I have a Silverado 1500 and a Wrangler JK so I have options for a towing vehicle. As far as the RV...it will be myself and my dog (Roxy) so I know I want to keep it small. Minimum requirements are a bed, kitchen and bathroom...I ain't no bear! I know a pop-up would probably be a good starter but I would be worried about keeping warm in cold weather and this option would probably rule out the bathroom. I like the look of the teardrop trailers but wow...with those options...pretty pricey!

I know I should probably go cheap or rent something then do some local camping before jumping in with both feet first but I guess I've developed analysis paralysis at this point.

Anyway just wanted to introduce myself and start learning from the experienced!

Hi Curt.....So - you didn't get any camping experience in the AF???? LOL Sorry I couldn't help that!!!!

I was a city kid - not too much $$ growing up and I never had any camping experience until I went in the Army..... What I did learn from the Army was I would never boondock!! Hahahaha - Have a lot of experience with that, less the RV....

You are in the right place to do your due diligence and learning. Just keep in mind - everything here is subjective to the author - such as me not wanting to boondock!

So make your plans - - ask your questions - - there are soooo many great folks on iRV2.

One thing I know about boondocking, research your holding tanks, fresh water capacity, batteries/solar power.

Now - - you wouldn't have to worry about your black or grey tank capacity if you went and dug cat holes, shaved out of your helmet, sorry- - I digress....! LOL

Welcome to the family....
