Newbie from WNY

Hello. Thanks for allowing me the use of this forum. About to undergo yet another shift in life style, from semi-working when my current contract expires next year, to full-time living. My wife and I are agreed that we (including river out yellow lab) should wander the USA & Canada. Start by heading south from Western NY, maybe west and up the coast of Ca. to catch the whale migration next March. Or not. We'll see where the road leads.

Not totally new to RVs, we've traveled cross-country with two kids and a pop-up 20 years ago, and I've spent several months worth of time over several years in rented Class C's out in California. I also have experience driving fire trucks (pumpers & ladders) in my prior life on the NFFD.

I've been looking a researching 5th wheel rigs. Shopping a 5er has been interesting and we're honing in on what we like, what we need and what we want balanced with how much we need to pay. Currently a gently used 2019 Solitude 380FL looks to be in nice shape and wouldn't mind the less money part).

My biggest mystery if the proper tow vehicle. We NEED the best riding truck we can get for the road tripping and site seeing aspects of the journey. Accordingly g to YouTube videos, RAM seems to enjoy the best reputation for ride.

In any event, Im really glad I found this forum. I've gleaned so great info thus far.

Chuck, welcome from a fellow WNYer who just got out of RVing after 20 years. We are taking a break (perhaps permanent) from the motorhome aspect. We certainly enjoyed our time in the various RV’s we’ve owned. Our twins managed to get to all fifty states before they were 20 so our rigs did get used.

Have fun in your search. Maybe take in the Tampa Show next month and see if there is anything out there that particularly whets your whistle.

Can't offer you any info on what brand offers the best ride, but hopefully you are considering a dually for a 5ver that size.
